It's a great line of Tv's... I have the 27" Tau model. Great picture, one of the best remotes, and built-in speakers are pretty decent.

Only gripe is it's not HDTV......but for me, 27" HDTV doesn't make a difference.

This should be at most walmart stores as they are redoing all the electronic departments company wide right now.

Yeah, the Taus are comparable to the Wega in that they are Panasonic's line of flat TVs. I own a 32" Hi-Def Tau and love it!

Yeah wal-mart is having killer deals on TV's all over. Seeing the prices there made me buy a tv on the spot!

Got a 27" Philips flat screen for $200!!! It was an open box display model but still carries an instore 90 day return policy, plus the original manufacturers warranty. They also had a 27" Sanyo flat screen for $200.

Now my only question is, did I make the right purchase? Is it still alright to be purchasing analog tv's? I really wanted 16:9 HDTV, but for the price I had to get it before someone else.

QUOTE FROM MAGAZINE:

""Another surprise is that even though analog TV'S Days are almost over (according to the FCC, All analog licenses are slated to expire at the end of 2006) The CEA projects that over 22 million analog sets will be sold this year. ""

Food for thought.

I think I'm going to hold on to my analog 27 and buy a nice big digital in 2005 or even 2006.

I wish I had a TAU though. hehe

I bought the Philips also for a friend for $235 but it was not a display model. Displays = the suck from walmart as they are on 24/7 for around a year minimum.

So what will happen to all the analog sets when everything is switched over to digital? I am under the assumption that they will still be able to display the picture and sound, just not as clear as the digitals. Am I correct, or will the TV's be useless for Cable/Satellite viewing in a couple years?

No analog tvs will still work after the change to an digital broadcast in 2006. The broadcasts will be backwards compatible.

Dude, if I were you I would spend around $75 and get a TV stand made for 36" TVs before I knocked that thing over :Q

Also, why do some guys use female avatars (the icon that represents you)? Just wondering?

Locke: I have that EXACT TV, I just bought the Panasonic 36" Tau at CC for $500 open box....beat that deal. Anyway, that's a pretty good deal for a new Tau. I personally love the TV, my DVD's, and digital cable look fantastic.

That's not entirely true. Analog TVs can't use digital signals, period. Every single article I've read on the subject states that after analog transmissions cease, analog sets will require an add-on digital tuner to view over-the-air broadcasts. So, you'll be able to use your analog TV, but you'll need to buy an expensive accessory for it. If you have digital cable TV, satellite TV, etc. then you're already good; the set-top box already converts a digital signal to analog. Here are a few articles I found after a quick search:

So only the wealthy will be able to watch TV? How democratic of the FCC! If you want to watch TV, buy HDTV...oooh, but there's no digital tuner since most are HDTV R E A D Y...luckily, you can spend 5-20 grand and get something in the lines of plasma or LCD, or XBR wega. But then again, you really are not gaining much since there is nothing on TV nowadays anyways. I aint blowing that amount of loot so I can watch horrible tv like will and grace (my money says grace is the guy). But for every cause there is an effect. if people cant afford to get a tv, the will get movies. and once dvd burners hit the mainstream with faster speeds, a bootlegging there will be. The cheapest solution that i can think of is getting a PCTV HDTV tuner card, since they are only in the $200 range now. Thats my 2pesos!

I have had a 24" Tau for a little over a year. It cost $500 then so I guess $600 for a 32" is pretty good except that the next TV I buy will be at least a widescreen HDTV monitor.

aren't taus comparable to wegas?
If better is comprable, then they are. The only VVegas that are really good are their high-end models which also are of course are HDTVs. Their analog models are not really that great and then their cheap line is just average.

Somebody needs to get a drink or something and calm down...

"Only the wealthy" were able to watch television when they first came to market. However, the prices dwindled as the technology became cheaper and more and more people could afford to own a television. Now that HDTV is on the horizon, the FCC gave a very generous time window before requiring all broadcasts to become digital/HD/whatever you want to call it. Just in case you hadn't noticed, it is June 2003 right now. That time window is still THREE YEARS AWAY. HDTV sets will be significantly more affordable in 3 years time. By then, people will have seen an HDTV broadcast and WANT to spend the $200 on a 27" HDTV set.

The quality of programming on television is irrelevant to this discussion.

I wouldn't say they're average...
I got the 27" Wega last year and I LOVE it!
