Hello anandtech forum! First time user here.

I need as much speed as I can get out of this CPU because I use Flight Simulator X which is extremely CPU dependent.

I've got my 3570k's overclock 24/7 prime95 stable on 4.7ghz 1.38v never exceeding 97c

How good of an overclocker is my CPU? Please share some of your 3570k overclocking results!

Already another ongoing thread on this here:

Anyway, 97C is pretty darn toasty IMHO, and 1.38V is high. If it's stable and your happy and okay with the increased risk of failure or damage then go for it. Otherwise I think it's a candidate to degrade on you before it reaches obsolescence but you might get lucky.

+1 to what has been said, but it depends on your upgrade/replacement path.

4.5GHz @ 1.27v ~80C on air (9900Max) in 25 to 30C ambient (summer, no A/C) usual/daily high is about 72C, idle about 40C... will easily hit TJM/105C with LinX.

If that 97C is your "usual" high, such as playing FSX... that is high. If that's under a Prime run... not so bad.

1.38V on Ivy Bridge, that sounds very excessive unless you're using a custom loop. 97C is also too high for my tastes, that is throttling territory for the IVB. I'm using an H100 closed loop cooler and I definitely would not up my voltage that high.

Personally i'd aim a bit lower for the voltage unless you have a very versatile cooler - 1.25V or below is desirable, maybe up to 1.275 if you have a great closed loop cooler. Obviously this may mean that your maximum OC will be slightly lower, but that is worth it for better temps and longevity. 1.38V on IVB is the realm for Custom Loops with delidded processors, IMO...

Yeah my CPU needed almost 1.4v to get over 4.6Ghz. So I left it at 4.5. I would be dropping back if I were you just to get the temps and voltage down.

Temps are too high for my taste. I would drop to 4.5Ghz and drop that vcore to no more than 1.3
