3650 vs 6600GT

Hey
Im looking for a quick upgrade for my comp, something nice and cheap.
Im planning on making a new PC in the near future anyway based around an AMD/ATI combo anyway so this is just a quick dirty upgrade for this comp.

I have a n AMD 939 X2 4800, 1GB RAM, 6600GT 256mb

Been looking at a Radeon 3650 1GB card, can pick it up for less than £30

Would this be a good upgrade or a waste of time ? Ive seen it benching quite well against 8600s so im presuming so..
Just wanted your advice before taking the plunge

Yes, the 3650 will be faster than the 6600GT.

As a matter of fact, its about the same level as the 2600XT.

Im guessing the 3650 would also trounce that ?

Will do, but for a little more money the 3850 will walk all over the 3650

The 3650 is around twice as fast as a 6600GT, perhaps a bit more. A 3850 will chew it to pieces and spit it out anywhere it likes. Though if you can't come up with the cash for a 3850, the 3650 will still be an awesome upgrade.

Though, in the end, do not expect breathtaking game experience with a 3650. It's ok at best, usually a 'ok, it plays games' type of card. medium with a bit of luck. And no crazy resolutions. There's progress for you

For a one to one comparison of cards from the same GPU maker, go to GPU Review for the raw specs.

The X600 Pro was merely a rehash of the Radeon 9600 XT with the new PCIe interface added to it, so it really isn't / wasn't much of a card, and a 6600 GT was better already.

(You can't easily compare across makers' boundaries with just the specs, same as relying on 3Dmark only isn't the full picture.)

Well its installed an already is making grounds above the 6600
The 3850 was alot more money than the 3650. Cheapest was £86.
Like i said, this was just a cheap upgrade. Waiting on the new SB750 mobos and perhaps a phenom refresh to buy a new comp altogether, with a 4870X2

The PowerColor HD3850 can be had here for not much over an HD3650 and boy does it perform. But the HD3650 is on par with the 7600GT, which in turn is on par with the 6800 Ultra. Which is obviously miles faster than the 6600GT...
