3dmark06 question

When people post thier 3dmark scores, is there a specific level of settings they run it at?

In 3dmark06 my default resolution is 1280x1024 and I get 4099 3dmarks. Is that a decent score?

My SM 2.0 score is 1774, HDR/SM3 is 1854 and CPU is 1061.

1280, no aa no af. thats standard for 06. for 05 the res is 1024.

Normally it's with all settings turned to aplication controlled. Perhaps you should have used your oh so great intelect to go and ask in the video forum rather than the general hardware froum.

I don't have an "oh so great intelect"; otherwise I would not have posted. Beyond that, 3dmark06 also stresses the CPU in the CPU test, therefore it is a general hardware question.

This should be in the software forum, since you are asking about software! By your logic every software question would be in general hardware, because it runs on hardware?

Aright, well let's not get into a discrete mathematics based logic argument here over "inclusive or" and "eclusive or".

I still feel like general hardware location was good for it because I wanted to know if my 3dmark scoreing methods were good and if my score matched up to all of my hardware.

It is an equivalent post to someone who built a new rig asking if their 3dmark score was appropriate or what settings they had to change to make it appropriate. I have seen many posts in that manner in the general hardware forum.

If I posted something along the lines of "my X1800XT is loud, where can I find an arctic silencer for it [if they exist]?" then that is a clear cut example of belonging in the video card section.

Beyond that, I did no harm, so there is no need to post in such a manner that bobthelost did commenting on my intellect. The world won't end if I post in a slightly wrong section, so no need to get so serious. I was merely anxious and worried that my computer might not have been working up to par.

Thanks for the article. It makes me feel better knowing my card still has some life left regardless what 3dmark06 indicates.

Well, 3DMark has been shown to not be a true-to-life benchmark anyway.... but I just like it for the pretty visuals!

Personally, I think we should start shooting people who post these threads, but that may be an extreme position.

There is a GIANT ONLINE DATABASE OF SCORES out there for you to compare against, and doing so does not clutter up the forum with "OMG how many points should I get in 3DMark?!?!!" threads. And it should be pretty obvious that you want to run it at the default settings (or the ones that you see 99+% of the ORB scores using...) to get a comparable score to everyone else.

Also, since this gets asked so much, the search function would probably have turned up the answer without you even needing to post.

Bitching about it is not going to change this as it has been happening for years and will contuniue to happen. Lighten up. Geez! Don't you guys have anything better to do than complain about a topic repost or even worse, actually searching the forums a posting a simular thread? Its assinine.
