it is high, but not all that high. My buddies 3500 Newcastle idles at 36c and under load it goes into the high 40's.
Changing the thermal paste will help a ton.
I have a 3200 at 2.6Ghz (260x10) and it was 46c idle, 60c load with stock heatsink. I changed to Ceramique and kept the stock heatsink, now it runs about 32c idle and never goes above 45c no matter what. I ordered a different heatsink, but wont be installing it for a few days.
