45lb weight loss
Dropped seven pants sizes
Blood-work = no longer require meds
Exercise for fun now = yeah, for fun!!
One year ago this week my doctor told me that if I didn’t make significant health decisions that I’d ring in my 40th birthday with more medical prescriptions than candles on my cake. I’m glad to say that though I do have some non-weight related health issues that may require surgery, the only medical signature I was concerned about getting during my annual physical this year was for medical clearance to get Scuba certified!
Last August weighed in at 203lbs (I’m 5’6”, was in danger of becoming diabetic, had high blood pressure, dangerous cholesterol levels and my eyes were literally exiting their sockets as a result of fatty tissue buildup behind my eyeballs. I got winded walking a quarter mile and I couldn’t sleep through the night without a CPAP machine. I was in a perpetual state of exhaustion because my body was unable to rest even when resting. The list goes on...
Today I am 158lbs, my blood-work is within safe levels, I’ve dropped seven pants sizes, I can sprint a quarter mile, I occasionally use but no longer require a CPAP machine for a good night of rest and I actually enjoy going to the beach. I’m pursuing interests that were little more than a dream just one year ago.
I didn’t jump on a fad diet bandwagon, pledge allegiance to P90X (though I just might do it for fun), or do anything drastic other than commit to small healthy changes over time. Taken as a whole, it’s a significantly different lifestyle, but I chose to make incremental improvements so that nothing I did at any time would send me packing. I’m now six months at my target weight, am not just keeping weight down but building good muscle and I am enjoying, enjoying life!
Yeah, I’m bragging; in a manner of speaking. But moreso I’m posting this here to encourage anyone who may need a nudge, that you simply have to pick some easy goals and achieve them, learn a little bit about your next simple goals and achieve those, keep choosing relatively near reach goals to achieve and build on those goals. One month, three months, six months or a year later you’ll see that you’ve climbed a mountain (so-to-speak) that you would have given up on had you set out to summit in one fell swoop.
Though I didn’t get my motivation or health guidance from this forum, I’ve been reading a lot of the threads here lately (especially the Fat Loss Sticky) and much of what I’ve experienced has been encouraged here. There are some absolutes that simply cannot be ignored. There are also varied health conditions that should receive the benefit of professional guidance. And for some things, there are a whole lotta methods that will get the job done, it’s just a matter of doing it.
So, those of you who know you need to improve your health; pick some simple goals and go after them! Go enjoy some life!
Cheers,
Sketcher
