I updated the BIOS on my 4G4A+ to the latest version last night, an ever since then I can't overclock like I used to. I originally had it at, 2.26@2.72, but now it won't overclock at all. What I am looking for is the original BIOS version from the 4G4A+ so I can overclock again....thanks.

Read some good reviews on this board from Epox and wanting to pair it with a P4 1.8a chip. Tried ordering at newegg and they don't have this MB on their site so I emailed them asking why this is the case since it seems to be a very good MB. I like Epox because of the OC features they have. Their reply was this:

Dear Customer

The item was having some problems as well as some other epox motherboards, so they were removed from the site until the manufacturer are able to get the problem taken care of, thats the main reason. Hope this information was helpful. Have a great day.

Thank you

So, is this a good board or not? I purchase a lot from them and always rely on their opinions and is this is the response they have them maybe I should look at some other brands.

Basically it is a very good board. As a proud(?) owner I can share some of my experiences regarding this board.

There indeed are some uncertainities with this board. I also had some miscellaneous problems with the latest bios (2822) but they all disappeared with a tad older bios (2617). This is clearly a software issue and thus nothing to worry about.

Also some particular features of this board are a bit suspicious:

USB2 - Some say it works and some say it doesn't. This could be a driver issue. I refuse to believe that EPoX would have released a board with completely broken USB2 support.

HyperThreading - It's almost positive that this board will never support HT. Facts are that the board uses Stepping A 845G chipset (Intel says it doesn't work with HT) and EPoX itself states that the board doesn't support HT. This could be a crushing defeat for the 4G4A series.

Everything else (LAN, RAID, etc) seem to work perfectly. However, the lacking HT support is a major letdown and if it indeed turns out that the board will never support it, I wouldn't recommend it.

I tried the 6/17/02 BIOS and it wouldn't work either...niktheblak, what revision is the BIOS that came with the board? How does yours overclock? As far as I am concerned this board kicks! I loved it until it wouldn't let me overclock anymore! I'm thinking about getting a new board soon, anything coming up soon worth waiting for?

Sorry, but I haven't overclocked my 1.8A processor yet. My problems were with constant BSOD's with the latest BIOS, but as I said, they disappeared with an older BIOS.

The original BIOS that came with the board was 24/4/2002, I uploaded it to my personal homepage for you to download:

4g4a2424.zip

A hint for every other 4G4A owner, download it while you can. EPoX no longer host the original BIOS at their FTP servers.

Don't throw away your 4G4A+ yet, install the original BIOS and live happily for another day

I have a slight problem with my board

I got a new new CPU after the original one didn't post atall and just gave me long beeps.
I turned it on and I had left the jumper on the board accidentely on the CPU 133mhz and it displayed P4 2.4Ghz whereas it is a P4 1.8Ghz.
It then displayed 'CMOS checksum error'.
So I immediately changed the jumper to its default 100mhz position and booted up giving me the same 'CMOS checksum error'.
So I cleared the CMOS and tried turning the PC on but nothing happened. The fans starting going but no screen or post codes. I just get a continuous beeping sound.
So i checked on the net what the Award BIOS beep codes mean and it says video or RAM problem. So I tried different slots and using only 1 256Mb chip to see if 1 is faulty but same problem.
I have some RAM in my PC I can try when I get home from work, but this problem is the same thing I had when the CPU was faulty.

I can't believe it has suddenly gone again??
