5.1 surround system question

Hey guys I got a couple questions. I am looking into a 5.1 system for some gaming. Only problem is this. Sometimes I play online with friends over teamspeak2. I do not want to have to unhook all my stuff in the back to plug my headphones back in, and vice-versa.

I know there are some kind of "sound boxes" out there where you can run your line in from your speakers in, and have your headphone/microphone/ combo plugged in. I cannot place a name on one, or find one anywhere on newegg or etc.

Does anyone know what I am refering to?

Also, I use onboard sound right now. I guess I could also just leave my headphones plugged into onboard sound and leave it enabled when I'm playing with friends on ts2. Then disable and use my 5.1 sound card system when Im playing alone. Basically have both sound cards, and disable the one I'm not using and leave headphones hooked into old onboard sound.

Why not just buy a card that has that 5.25 thingy with all the connectors to mount in your 5.25" bay?

At least Creative X-Fi (Fatal1ty, Platinum, Pro) have that, probably some others too.

If your budget is high enough, you could get a home theater in a box with a receiver, Onkyo makes nice ones for $300-600. You run 3 stereo miniplugs to 6 RCA connectors to the analog 5.1 in on the receiver, then the receiver drives both speakers and 'phones.

Just make sure the HTIB receiver has analog 5.1 in, some of the really cheaper don't.

I've got some 5.1 logitech speakers that have headphone jacks in the speakers themselves so you don't have to fiddle around at the back
