I probably missed another post on this, but I searched and couldn't find one. Please lock it up of it is a repost.

I was at the bookstore, and there were literally groups of women gathered around in a group and a sales person getting them all ramped up to buy all 3 volumes of this book. It was almost like an auction...they sold stacks of these things in minutes.

Why are women so attracted to this book? My wife and all of her friends bought it this past week, and I read a small portion of one of the "juicy" parts, and I just don't get it. My wife even admitted she just bought it as a joke and probably won't even read the whole thing.

The hype on this book must be making this author a fortune. I think most are just buying it to say they have it.

It's so cute: women finally discovered that porn is awesome. Once again, men are decades ahead of the curve.

I just heard of the book today and went to amazon to see what it was about. I read the 3 most helpful reviews and laughed.

Amateur woman porn would be more precise based on the reviews I read.

I asked my wife what made this special from all the other romance novels and she said it has s&m. I will have to think about where to go with this.

But it goes to show women would rather have porn in mind & thought than visually like men.

My wife is on the third book now. It gets her all hot and bothered and I don't mind that at all. Although, recently she has been asking if she can tie me up!!

What's the difference between this and men reading Clive Cussler books? It's all fiction....

Haha, yeah. For some reason I think if I bring S&M into the bedroom, my wife won't be as accepting of it.

I wish women in general would read/watch more erotic stuff.

When I used to go to bachelor parties and a stripper would show up, my wife would say things like "How would you feel if I went out and watched naked men shaking their junk in my face all night?"

I would reply "That'd be awesome, because you'd be all ready to go when you got home!"

LOL

about half way through the book, i looked up the author to see if she was a teenager. I really did because the characters are out of a 16 year old's fantasy. The main male character is a billionaire (not a millionaire but a billionaire) who speaks fluent french, is basically a concert level pianist, is a fully trained pilot, is athletic, drop dead gorgeous, tall, built perfectly with an enormous penis, and the best lover on the planet. In addition, he's not only self made but is using his money to combat world hunger. Oh yeah, and all of this at the ripe old age of 26! And on top of that, he's never working. Every second is spent having sex or texting and emailing the female character. His billions seem to have just come about by magic. It seriously feels like 2 teenage girls got together and decided to create their "dream man" and came up with christian grey.

Buy a ball gag, some paddles, some cheap bondage gear (amazon.com) NOW GODDAMNIT!

I think they buy it because it's 45 shades more than their husband or boyfriend will ever be.

HAHAHAHA! Wow, awesome character.

I scanned the Wikipedia entry on the book; I don't get how a reviewer said it was "based on the Twilight series". What the heck does this story have to do with Twilight? I understand it started out as fan fiction, but even then, how do you go about writing fan fiction for Twilight and end up with a (shitty) BDSM story?

I've had a bit of s&m experience and read some of the first book. I didn't care for the characters. It's very cliche romantic dreck. The dude is a billionaire at 26, she's a pure virgin, blah blah blah. It's pretty good at explaining bdsm stuff, like using 'red' as a safeword and the negotiation/discussion of limits before play.

The Fifty Shades trilogy was developed from a Twilight fanfiction originally titled Master of the Universe and published episodically on fanfiction websites under the penname "Snowqueens Icedragon."

obviously you have to strip out the twilight portion because that's all copyrighted/trademarked/whatnot, but shitty BDSM sounds about right for fanfic.

I have the e-book version on my iPad at home. It's pretty amusing.

My wife slowed way down partway through the third book. She fully admits that it's total schlock, but who am I to judge? If she likes it, fine.

She says, though, that by the third book, they're having sex constantly (every few pages) and it gets boring.

Your wife thinks having sex all the time is boring? Indeed. :|
