I don't get it. You say you only need a tower, but you make it sound liek you want us to choose components for you. Do you mean you only need the components that go inside the case such as CPU, motherboard etc. and you have everything else such as monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.?

Your comprehension skills are sorely lacking. He wants the Tower ie. the case and everything inside but not the monitor/kb/mouse/speakers.

I have a few pointers on what you have chosen so far...

With what you have put in the computer so far, having higher end ram won't do much for you. Go for a cheaper stick of 512mb like the Kingston that is ~$60 right now.

Also, I would look at a slighty better hdd, like a Seagate 80gb for $61.33. It's worth a few more dollers for a better and quieter hdd, plus it has a 5 year warranty.

Other than that it looks fine, though I might look at getting a used Ati 9600 pro instead of that worthless FX 5200. But If you want to stick with newegg, then that might be your best choice.

Buy this and save money
CPU/Mobo
Won't need to buy a Graphics card since it has onboard...
Then, buy
Corsair VS RAM
Western Digital 80 GB HDD
A nice looking M-ATX case
The same CD-R Drive
That'll be around $350 or lower...

If she's going to be word processing, surfing, aiming, and doing some CD stuff ... no offense, but what's wrong with the PII she's on now?

If you really are looking for a good budget system, I think Chinoman hit the nail pretty much on the head. Swap in Mushkin or Crucial for the RAM if its cheaper, swap in a Seagate or Samsung or Maxtor for the HDD if it's cheaper, etc.

Whatever you do, please please please please please (please!) do not get a PC Chips motherboard if you're looking at cost-cutting ... you WILL regret it. Also, do NOT skimp on the PSU! Fortron/Sparkle (make sure it's a FSP model), Tagan, and TTGI/SuperFlower/Link Depot/Athena are some solid inexpensive PSUs that I can come up with offhand.

1. Do not get a Msi Motherboard. I've had problems with that motherboard in the past.

2. $92 for 1 stick of 512mb is pointless (unless you are overclocking the a64).

3. Get a Dfi socket 754 motherboard.

4. Try and at least get a 9600 pro or 6600 gt for 180.

Pixle.
