500W Enough?

Sorry to post such a mundane question but before I go out and buy this case (Sonata III), I'm wondering if the EarthWatts 500 Watt is enough to power this rig:

Q6600 OC'd 3GHZ
2x8800 GT SLI
Raptor 150 gb
500 GB Hard drive
Asus P5E MB
4gb RAM

Will it be enough? Or should I go higher?

You'd probably be fine, except that you're going SLI. The Earthwatts PSU's are generally good bang for the buck, but I'd choose something with a little more for SLI. Especially with the OC'ed quad.

Yeah was thinking maybe to go with a p182/corsair 620hx. About 100 dollars more but... I do like the p182 case better and the modular power supply would be nice.

The corsair would be a better option. You will want that exstra power for your system. The 500W EW is probbably a bit close to the edge.

I'd go with the hx620w option. It'll leave you more room and run more efficiently because you'll not be pushing it as much as the Antec. If you weren't doing SLI the Antec would be just fine.

The 500W is not enough power. You need 600W minimum with overclock and SLI and I would say get 700W so that the PSU isn't working hard at full load.

If you are going with the P182 ensure that the motherboard power lead is long enough to reach before you make a purchase of PSU as the P182 has an unusual layout and there is a problem fitting certain PSUs depending on which mobo you use.

Check out what PSU you need with eXtreme Power Supply Calculator v2.5
I advise you to use the 'Pro' version as it calculates amps (current) per rail as power (watt). The Lite version is free and only calculates the watts required.

No power supply calculator is even close to being correct!!

The PSU that he purchased will do him just fine!!
I would have went with a PSU will more amps but the Corsair is a well built PSU!!

The ones that separate out the individual rails can provide quite good estimates, depending on the quality of the data they use as a basis.

This does not disagree with the post you quoted, so why yell it at him?
