Fastball: Yah we did, we gave them an apology. For what? Flying an aircraft??
edit: WE OWED THEM NOTHING, why are we sorry their pilot made a mistake and that cost him him life, I regret it, but it was HIS OWN FAULT. And Further "Were very sorry" about landing at your airport, give me a freaking break.

The U.S. did not take blame for the incident. We, however, expressed sorrow for the loss of the pilot. Get your facts straight.

The word "apology" was not in the letter. They said we were sorry one of their pilots died and for landing in their country.

So far, I think Bush has handled it fairly well. But it remains to be seen what he does with Taiwan.

I fully support selling defense related equipment to Taiwan.

BTW, I think Bush is a spineless wimp...but for other reason.

Clinton was a douche and spineless. GW did everything right in this situation. If you commie liberals would relax, he might be a damn good president.

No, snoop, it was no different than if one of your family members died and I said "I'm sorry", you know how people do that right? If the chinese want to interpret it as an appology for the incident to keep themselves happy, by all means. The fact remains that the US NEVER appologized for this incident.

I agree. GW handled this very well. If Clinton was still in office he would be taking it from behind right now and asking for more.

Dude, you are just grabbing at straws to degrade Bush. If you actually read the letter, we only apologized for landing the plane in China's territory and expressed regret that one of their motherfvckers crashed and burn into the sea. I hope we never apologize for causing the actual crash b/c we did nothing wrong. But if this is all it takes to bring our 24 men and women home, then we should be goddamned happy about it.

Snoop the title does not "say it all" Explain your reasoning and why, then there can be a discussion as to why you are wrong.

For the sake of discussion this is the letter sent to the Chinese.
>>
WASHINGTON (AP) - Text of letter released by the White House from U.S. Ambassador Joseph W. Prueher to Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Tang.

Dear Mr. Ministern behalf of the United States Government, I now outline steps to resolve this issue.

Both President Bush (news - web sites) and Secretary of State Powell have expressed their sincere regret over your missing pilot and aircraft. Please convey to the Chinese people and to the family of pilot Wang Wei that we are very sorry for their loss.

Although the full picture of what transpired is still unclear, according to our information, our severely crippled aircraft made an emergency landing after following international emergency procedures. We are very sorry the entering of China's airspace and the landing did not have verbal clearance, but very pleased the crew landed safely. We appreciate China's efforts to see to the well-being of our crew.

In view of the tragic incident and based on my discussions with your representative, we have agreed to the following actions:

Both sides agree to hold a meeting to discuss the incident. My government understands and expects that our aircrew will be permitted to depart China as soon as possible.

The meeting would start April 18, 2001.

The meeting agenda would include discussion of the causes of the incident, possible recommendations whereby such collisions could be avoided in the future, development of a plan for prompt return of the EP-3 aircraft, and other related issues. We acknowledge your government's intention to raise U.S. reconnaissance missions near China in the meeting.

Sincerely,

Joseph W. Prueher
<<

" We regret the loss of your pilot", not, we take any responsibility for your pilot acting like an idiot and crashing his plane into ours.

We are very sorry the entering of China's airspace and the landing did not have verbal clearance,"

We are sorry that the Chinese military did not respond to numerous maydays by a plane in distress on the internatinal emergency frequency and we had to land at your airport with out your permission. Next time answer the damn phone/radio.

Bush did what he had to do. And saying your sorry for the loss of a human life was the right thing to do.

Snoop, you need to get you facts right,

<< In the letter, United States expressed regret over the death of the Chinese pilot involved in a mid-air collision with the spy plane April 1 and over the American plane having landed at China's Hainan Island without permission >>

quoted from AP.
