Interesting news Rollo. I hope the cards are as good as you say they are but seeing the performance lead the X1800XT's got in some of the more popular titles, it'll have to have some big improvements over the current 7800GTX.

did i miss something? does the x1800xt have some "big improvements" in performance over the 7800gtx?

In a very short time, you will be as amazed as I was, with cost and specification. Better than I would have even hoped for.

I cannot answer any specific questions, as much as I'd love to spread the good tidings, because this info is under NDA currently.

My guess is this will be the only card you even consider.

Dont give us specifics but talk in generalities.

Like let me ask you, is there a core and ram clock speed bump with this new model?

I can't talk in generalities either.

I have seen the core speed, clock speed, MSRP, and fan design of this card, and we are all going to wish we had one.

I'm sorry, but the price of information is following the giver's wishes, and that's as much as I can tell you.

Based on the reviews of the X1800XT vs 7800GTX 430/1200, and this card's specs, I don't think ATI will win ANY benchmarks anymore.

I'm am guessing they are not feeling good these days if they've seen the info I have.

Bah, we'll have a fanboy brawl about IQ and AA/AF performance and quality to detract from the fact that the 512MB 7800GTX will stomp the X1800XT (and actually be available for one to purchase  )

What if this 7800Ultra/512MB beast it out before the XT?!?!?!?! :Q

I'm assuming from what Rollo has said that we're getting a large clock speed boost, a more than fair price (compared to ATIs pricing), and a single slot solution.

This news was the greatest fear to the ATI camp.
7800Ultra raining on the XT's party.

Nvidia is really putting the screws on ATI. As good as ATI did in the 5800/5600 vs 9700/9500 days, but probably for a longer time period now (since the Geforce6 lineup).
The 5900/5700 cards I liked alot actually, especially the 5900XT and 5700s.

My guess is no since the fill rate is only slightly higher. But the new card is supposed to have faster speeds which is good.

My guess is that it will be. Or at least nVidia's will be Retail while we'll be lucky to see some XT OEM parts for sale, if that.

Pretty sad (IMHO) that nVidia has the 7800GTX out for months and now has a supercharged version coming before ATi can even release their part.

I'm building my new PC in the next couple weeks or so, and I will be getting either one of these two cards (7800GTX512MB or X1800XT). So whichever one is the cheapest (and available) will be my choice.

Rollo, any word if the 512mb GTX will be built on the 90nm process? If so, I'll make someone a real GOOD deal on a pair of GTX KO's.

Actually, that I know, but cannot say. NDA info has it's ups and downs- good to know, unfortunately can't tell.

You'll know very soon, I promise you that. As with other stuff I've dropped hints about, if the info has made it's way to a guy like me, it's on the heels of making it to the world.

Guys like staff here have probably been benching these for months.

Actually, it does have some big leads, contrary to popular belief around here. Check out how the xt does against an asus extreme gtx at 483/1350. The xt still has a nice lead in Chaos Theory, Farcry and especially in BF2.

Rollo, I noticed your from WI...I was born in madison. Sure do miss the fishing up there. Do you think the new 512mb GTX is worth selling a KO or 2 over?(90nm,512mb,faster clocks?) Already posted both of them for sale @ $800/pair shipped or $425 ea. A good deal for someone looking for one...or 2

This 512mb 7800 Ultra sounds like the hot ticket. I'm going to consider buying once since Rollo said the MSRP is one of the high points of the card

I'm expecting current GTX prices for one of these faster 512MB versions. Just my random guess.

OMG rumour on new top end grx card, lets all wait on our purchase.
Then new card comes out.
OMG, rumour on NEXT high end card, WAIT BEFORE YOU PURCHASE!!!!!1112
OMG! Wait before you purchase that one because we have NEW RUMOURS!!!OMGWTFBBQGRASSSPIDERETC

Dude, there are always bigger and better things on the horizon, and if you're going to wait, you might as well wait for all eternity until things stop being developed.
Come the hell on, waiting is for people who don't really want to spend that money and wait until the best thing is here, but the best thing is always going to be improved upon by rumoured new cards, that's the whole way the market works.
Card A released, people say wait for card B from the ocmpetitor, card B released, people say wait for refresh C of card A, refresh C released, people say wait for refresh of B (card D), card D released, people say wait for the new card (card A2) etc etc, ad infinitum.

Sweet.

I fished the north end of Waubesa and Upper Mud Lake for bass on Tuesday and Friday afternoon last week Sentry2. Fish have slowed down some, but with a few 12% Old Stock Ales to take the chill off, beats the heck out of work on a slow day.

I think you'll be happy with the switch, and will likely be envying you!

Yeah but when people were waiting for the X1800 series Rollo was slamming them. I guess it's okay to wait for nVidia products but not for ATi products.

nah.

theres certain points where its smart to wait.

for instance when we heard that nvidia/ati wanted pcie to come quickly and come big.. i listened and waited.. many people were like "GET AGP NOW!" and i rejected that and waited for the Nforce4/PCIE.

that was a great decision.
i'd suggest at least waiting till the 512mb 7800 is released if you are seriously going to buy something now because we know for sure something big is going to be dropped soon..

my general feeling on the "wait" (constantly) people, is that they truley ARE in a trap and wont buy anything.
I draw lines myself, and I do wait for certain tech if it means hella lot of longevity (PCIE), or a price drop/more performance.

But if someone waits longer than that, they arent very serious about buying.. nov 7th is when you will find the most bang/buck and fastest video card ever come out with the advent of the 7800 Ultra.
