i was at officemax today. noticed they had 512mb pc133 kbyte/reptron dimms for $79. its $129-$50 instant rebate. their 256mb was the same price. seemed like a good deal especially with ram as expensive as it is now. i guess this isnt super cheap, as pc133 from pricewatch is around $76, but no shipping and its a name brand somewhat and a real store. the chips on these are usually PQI, ive seen em at bestbuy before also

it was the office max in torrance , california. next to best buy cross streets are pacfic coast highway and hawthorne blvd., they had a whole bunch in stock.

i looked on the office max web site and it says

K-Byte 512MB Memory Module.
Item # 20079022 , Style # 64X64-PC133
EA 1 Day $129.99

but they had it for $79 after the instant $50 rebate.

Uggghhhh.. looking at memory prices now makes me feel like attending church every week for buying loads of Crucial memory when they hit rock bottom around Nov/Dec. I remember buying two sticks of Crucial 256MB PC133 for a grand total of $57. And one of them was from BB too.

I'm kicking myself right now though... never did take advantage of buying DDR memory for future needs at the time! damn...

warm.
RAM from officemax is usually better than those generic ones being sold at FRy's and most pricewatch shops.

perhaps a naive question but: is there any chance ram prices are going to go down again anytime soon? Specifically pc133, as DDR and Rambus really dont help me much

How much lower do you want it to go? 512MB of PC133 for $79 is pretty low. Unless your PC's MB can only take 128MB dimms in each slot and smaller, like my older one.

I'd like to see the 256MB pc133 for $20 again. I've got an abit bp6 that could use 2 more 256MB sticks, and my desktop box could use another 2 as well... maybe that's wishful thinking (I got in on a dell deal for 256MB @ $19 each, shipped a while back, I should have bought more though).

most big oems are still getting ram at around $25 for 256mb ddr. they are under contract pricing though. my dad works for an HP oem supplier, and they still pay like $25 for a micron 256mb dimm. but their contract is only for so long. memory prices arent gonna go down any time soon he says. and that we probably will never get back to the super cheap days anytime soon.

Thanks for the heads up on a great deal!

Here's what I did:

I generated an on-line cart showing the $30 off $150 applied coupon, printed it and took it in to my OM. They honored it so I got two sticks for $129.99.

My total with tax was $140.55 for 1Gig of PC133 RAM!

Thanks again - would never have known were it not for your post.

<< dajo, how come you didn't just have them ship it to you? >>

the instant $50 off is in-store only

I'm going back for 2 more sticks this morning. At this price, it is a wise investment. With RAM at its current prices and no evidence of a downward trend this can only be a good deal as I can sell it at any time and make a 30% profit.

I picked up 2 sticks of the memory yesterday. Tried them both in my Duron (VIA chipset) computer and neither of them would run without seg-fault (memory) errors. With the current 512 micron stick that is in it it runs rock solid. Needless to say they are going back.

Just an FYI

I had to goto OM to do a return on a HiVal 24x10x40 CDRW so I decided to haul my Staples $30 coupon with me like dajo did sorta. Tested both sticks('LE' is on the PCB..guess that would be Legacy Electronics Inc.... the chips basically nada info) on an ECS mobo (thanks Dan) ran some mem tests ..no errors. For about $70 a stick for 512MB pc133 it will do the job.

If you want to save a few more bucks on this deal, buy your DIMMs at Best Buy for $139.99, but have them price match 110% to the OfficeMax ad (printable on officemax.com), so your total is only $73.99 per. Depends on if the hassle or the patronizing Best Buy is really worth it for you.

BTW, is K-byte memory refurbished? That is what the punk at BB told me. Modules and leads looked new to me, so I tend not to believe him.

Oh well, you have 'til the end of the day to get in on this deal. Enjoy!
