Interesting to see there are good boards in both camps that are now getting quite close in price - around the $150-175 range (after MIR...) and the i7 920 is going for a bit less than the i7 860. Most of the reviews seem to be from when the 58 boards were quite a bit more in price - now that it's almost a wash:

GB p55 ud3r $140
i7 860 $290
$430

GB x58 ud3r $174 (after mir)
i7 920 $280
$454

If I'm reading everything right, then all other components are the same (same ram etc) - for $24 - do you think the recommendations for Lynnfield vs. Bloomfield (considering price) would still hold up?

Yup ur reading that right, add in the price of ram spiking, and i bought my x58/920/6gb for the same price as a p55/860/4gb today. On the flip side the 860 costs like 4000x less in electricity

Well --- electricity will complicate matters for me too much unless I buy a killawatt - and then I'm on the laptop all day at work and the desktop is just for a little time at home anyhow... RAM is the same for the two boards though, right?

I don't know of any reason you'd buy the Core i7 920 unless you feel you will have future need of possible LGA1366 upgrades in the future. The Core i7 860 is generally a better processor and motherboards are a bit cheaper.

Cause if you want to OC past 4GHz, you're in better hands with a i7 920 D0 stepping. But I agree, if you aren't going to OC past around 3.5, I'd go with the 860 since people seem to be getting that high with Turbo enabled.
