64mb or 128mb?

im wondering which version of the Ti4200 to get my system specs are


1.1 GHZ TBird
512MB PC133 Ram
Asus AV7 M/B

the games I plan on playing w/ the new card are the recent games that I havent been able to play since my current card can't run them smoothly, games such as, RTCW, MoH:AA, WC3,NWN, Army Ops game etc etc I was wondering which one would actually be better for these kinds of games, btw im running all my games at 1024x768 since thats the max my monitor can go, what are your suggestions?

I ended up buying a 128mb card after hearing Quake 3 will be using 80mb textures. On a 64mb card means using main memory to help hold textures and that will mean a major slowdown, since they'll have to be repeatedly transferred over the AGP bus.. Then again you can always turn down the texture quality.... YMMV

so which one would be better for games like, ghost recon, rtcw,moh:aa,nwn,wc3 running @ 1024x768 I dont plan to run new upcoming games like ut2k3 and such

Gainward TI 4200 128MB version has been just spectacular for myself. You can easily overclock it to 275/550MHz...Gainward will also warranty the card regardless if you overclock or not. Some sites have reviewed the card and said they overclocked it to 310/560, I tried that setting on a Dragon running a 1200 T-Bird with 512MB of PC2100 and the system crashed during a benchmark using 3DMark 2001se, it crashed on the Dragothic section of the benchmark. System is very stable with the above settings however. The system was also stable at 300/550 if that helps you any. Don't forget with these cards you can also run a dual monitor setup, because of the DVI port on the card with an existing VGA port. 128MB version even comes with the DVI to VGA Adapter.

You're probably better off going with the 128 mb card because of its future proof factor. In actual tests, its is beat out by the 64 mb card in most current games when running at relatively low resolutions w/o aa on. However, that quickly changes when you get up in the 1280x1024 ranges. As new games require more and more memory, you'll be glad you have 128 as opposed to 64. Besides, you can always overclock the 128 mb card to make up for the slower memory anways.

Another vote for 128Megs, it's simply the better buy for future games. In current games, 64Megs isn't maxed out yet, but after UT2003 games will become a lot more memory hungry. It was the same situation with 32Megs vs. 64Megs back just before the GF3 came out and there were 32Meg and 64Meg GF2 cards. At the time, games weren't unhappy with 32Megs but soon after, games like MOH:AA benefited greatly from the extra memory so the 64Meg cards were more future proof. Plus there's not that much of a price difference between the GF4 Ti4200 64Meg and 128Meg cards so it's a nobrainer IMO.
