Today, in honor of our vets who died at Pearl Harbor, if I see a PS3 in the stores, I will not buy it. I won't give money to a Japanese company on December 7th.

Move to ban...this is not a troll thread.

Seconded. Most inappropriate sentiment ever.

Thirded.

Fourthed. I could semi understand if he had named one of the Zaibatsu corporations that still exist (Mistubishi is one, right)? But Sony? Honestly...

Didn't Mitsubishi make the engines in some of the Japanese planes?

Japanese veterans who participated in the attack as navigators and pilots will also pay their respects, offering flowers at the Arizona memorial for the American and Japanese who died.

Some Japanese veterans and American survivors have reconciled in the decades since.

Japanese dive bomber pilot Zenji Abe has apologized to American survivors for the sudden attack, ashamed his government failed to deliver a declaration of war in time for the assault.

The Japanese aviators who carried out the attack thought the declaration had already been made by the time they started bombing, Abe has said.

I wonder if this is true...not to say this makes everything ok, but it does make me feel as if the Japanese bombers were simply pawns in an evil chess match started by the Japanese government.

Soldiers ARE pawns at the lowest levels. Militaries would not function without obedience to orders.

That said, the attack at Pearl Harbor spelled the beginning of the end for Japan.
to the veterans who fought in the Pacific during WWII and helped defeat Japan and liberate Korea...

From what I have read, the Japanese mainland sent a message to the local ambassadors. By the time that it had been received, translated, and given to the US government, the attack was long over.

That's pretty ridiculous logic. On 9/11 are you going to boycott middle eastern restaurants? No one at Sony had anything to do with Pearl Harbor and no one at Japan today deserves grudges for Pearl Harbor. Carrying such grudges is how wars start, Hitler was able to rally the psyche Germany since they felt shunned and weak by the international community. The best we can do today is to instead reflect on humanity as a whole and what causes attacks to take place.

My Grandfather , Gary, was enlisting in the US Navy. Spent a few months in the North Atlantic on a a Tender, then was transferred to The Bennington in the Pacific.

Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives:

Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

My grandfather was not at Perl Harbor; he didn't enlist until after we were attacked. But at the end of the war, his ship (the USS Walker) was in Tokyo Bay the day the surrender was signed aboard the Missouri.

on a slightly lighter note, he married my grandmother while he was on leave from duty in the Pacific; they pretty much met at the train station when he got home, went and got married, spent the weekend together, and then he had to get back on the train to go back to California

I'm not entirely sure how you can say such a thing, however..

The 2 A-bombs. First time in history over a million people were killed in such short moments of time.

After Hiroshima and Nagasaki, technology evolved faster than it has ever done so in all the history of mankind, thus far.

Peace to those who sacrificed, two sides to become one. And in one, unity of all, within and without.

A day to remember, a week to plan, a month to reflect, and for every indivitual year to come, thoughtful resolutions made anew. Merry X-MaS 'n a HaPPY NeW YeARS~ evER-ONE!!
