My father was on the undamaged USS San Francisco (heavy cruiser), my mother was a civilian nurse tending the wounded. Both were very active in PHSA.
Dad told me that days after Pearl was attacked, guys inside the Arizona could be heard banging/calling for help. The sounds could be heard in the early morning when all else was quiet. This went on for 5+days.

After the war my father fell in love with the people of Nippon.
Japan is our friend now.

Japanese veterans who participated in the attack as navigators and pilots will also pay their respects, offering flowers at the Arizona memorial for the American and Japanese who died.

Some Japanese veterans and American survivors have reconciled in the decades since.

Japanese dive bomber pilot Zenji Abe has apologized to American survivors for the sudden attack, ashamed his government failed to deliver a declaration of war in time for the assault.

The Japanese aviators who carried out the attack thought the declaration had already been made by the time they started bombing, Abe has said.

I wonder if this is true...not to say this makes everything ok, but it does make me feel as if the Japanese bombers were simply pawns in an evil chess match started by the Japanese government.

Today, in honor of our vets who died at Pearl Harbor, if I see a PS3 in the stores, I will not buy it. I won't give money to a Japanese company on December 7th.

Move to ban...this is not a troll thread.

Seconded. Most inappropriate sentiment ever.

On behalf of Hawaii, Jadow needs a vacation.

I need to go visit the memorial, I haven't been there since I was a child.

Fourthed. I could semi understand if he had named one of the Zaibatsu corporations that still exist (Mistubishi is one, right)? But Sony? Honestly...

seriously. That's just a troll-ish post. I 5th the motion for ban. Today's business world and politics have nothing to do w/ that era. At the same time, I am forever greatful for the US's involvement in this war, and in the liberation of S. Korea.

Soldiers ARE pawns at the lowest levels. Militaries would not function without obedience to orders.

That said, the attack at Pearl Harbor spelled the beginning of the end for Japan.
to the veterans who fought in the Pacific during WWII and helped defeat Japan and liberate Korea...

Let's also remember those who died in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Thousands of innocent men, women and children.
