6600GT OC... temp. advice !!

Hi all.... have just been OCing my Leadtek 6600GT using Coolbits....

got it up from:

Core - 500 >>> 579mhz
MEM - 1000 >>> 1090mhz

The temp after a few mins shoots up to and levels out at 73C (from 32C idle)...seems HOT to me even though the warning temp is set to 145C as default !!! Although at stock temp goes up to 69C...

Looking for any advice concerning temps for this GPU....

so...your temps are 73? thats a little warm, but nothing to be concerned about if its running fine

OK.... was probably more surprised that it was 69C at stock settings - only a 4C jump (5%) when OCed by 15%... but still would i be killing my GPU in like no time at all at 73+C ???

Hmm, don't panic, those temps are rather high, but not alarming... Try RTHDRIBL to cook it... It is more stressing than any game out there...

EDIT: However, an aftermarket cooler like the Arctic NV Silencers are always a good choice in case you don't really trust it...

my 6600GT gets up to 73d when im giving it a real beating and i have been using like this for months so i think it should be fine

mine loads in the high 80's (loaded up to 96 before i reseated the stock hsf with AS5).

and the hottest mine gets is in FEAR (even hotter quicker than rthdrible for me).

As long as you are not running any voltage tweaks and have some form of cooling, the core will be unstable and crash your app/computer before it will do any damage.

Translation: As long as the heatsink is on it, don't worry about breaking it.

Here are my 6600GT OC results (on a 20 degree (Farenheit) day with the window wide open and a fan blowing directly into the case with the side off and a zalman vf700cu)

615/1255

30C idle, 35C load

Here are my overclock results normal (with the zalman cooler)


585/1220

47C idle, 56C load.

I'd say your temps are a bit toasty, but not too high.

curious to know why you would use coolbits instead of the tool that comes with the Leadtek 6600gt.
