6600gt vs 6800

Which would be the better option for an upgrade? I'm running an old ATI 9200SE right now with an A64 2800.

I'm probably going to stick with BFG just not sure which is a better option and what the odds are of being able to unlock a 6800.

hey BlacK, you should check if that 6800 is under their upgrade policy, you'd make more money that way than any other.

I picked up a chaintech 6800 last month for my kids pc and modded it to 6800gt levels by using RivaTuner to unlock ALL the pipes and vertexes (of course the core and memory clocks are NOT at the GT level but I/you can still OC the bad boy to get some performance gains)

3Dmark05 went from 2200 to 4300 after the unlock.

and it only cost $130 shipped.

Yea i know about that it doesnt unlock the pipess...onlyt 1 shader but thanks

what's weird is that the 6600gt and the 6800 win in different games...6800 forhalf life (i think) and 6600gt for doom3 by liek 20 frames.

Link? The 6600GT should never beat the 6800.
1. Fillrates are the ~same.
2. 6800 has higher memory bandwidth.
3. 6800 has more vertex processors.

The 6800 should win every benchmark between those two.

I think there was a problem with Dereks testing here Josh, like I said, the 6800 is ahead of, or even with, the 6600GT on all specs that matter. It can't logically be beaten by a 6600GT.

There's eight Far Cry benches at 4X8X, 6600GT loses every one.

Beyond that, I have two 6600 GTs and a 6800, I've verified the 6800 is faster myself.

yeah a lot of the hardware reviews for 6800's are really for 6800le's, the 8 pipe variant is a different beast to the 12 piper

perhaps you should state that in your post that YOUR ATTEMPT 'didn't unlock the pipes and only [unlocked] 1 shader' as your post seems to infer that the mod does not work.
