What card would be best but not overkill for 1920x1200 gaming? 6870 or 6950. I don't want to spend more than I have too. I do like AF at 16X and some AA...

Ideally it would be for BC2 max details 16x AF and just 2 or 4X AA. I would like it to be smooth as butter while playing...

Is 6950 1 GB conveniently launching the same day at 560, lol? By the way, is it fair to assume that at 1680X1050 a 6950 1GB will have essentially the same performance as the 2GB, except for the odd game or 2 that might somehow use more than 1GB at that resolution?

I ran all my games at 1920res with 8800 GT ,, smooth as silk. You dont need a 6940 or whatever to play at that resolution.

As for card,,, if you go with ATI Im warning you now you will have glitches and bad drivers. imo

No its fair to assume @1920x1080 that 1gb of ram is perfect for 99.9% of the games out there, unless your running 8x AA + ultra settings. @1600x1050 1gb is more then enough.

My 4890 has been great and I just picked up a 5870 for $200 AR. Works for me.

Just as well since there is no such thing as a 6940...

Plus you haven't really told us what you played at 1920 by XXXX, at what settings, and what frame rates you achieved...

You also forgot to tell him he didn't need an i7 2600K as a dual core would be fine for all games...

So my question to the OP is what games are you looking to run?

The 6870 should offer similar performance to your 5870 if you are happy with that...

Do what I do, buy the fastest card in your budget. That said, the 6870 is a great fit for that res, but if you can afford a 6950 it will make some settings that would make a 6870 unplayable playable.

Or you could do what happy says and wait to see what the 560 and 6950 1GB are like in about 10 days I don't think it will change much, but it might be worth a look.

For these kinds of questions I think it really remains a decision of getting the fastest card you can afford. You don't have to break the bank, but if you can squeeze for a faster card I think that is very, very worthwhile for your future enjoyment of the card.

For me, getting a card that is "fast enough" usually leaves me a bit underwhelmed when I actually go to get my fix.
