700m clock speeds?

my 700m is supposed to be clocked at 1.6 ghz but its set at 600 mhz right now, does anyone know what keys to push to get it back to default?

2) What makes you think it is staying at 600 MHz under load?

3) Have you tried doing a search for "SpeedStep"?

well, Tostada, i owned an HP laptop that had a button to push if you wanted it too clock down. i thought the 700m MIGHT be the same way

I think its cuz of that power saving thing that cums with pentuim m n mayb celeron. my dad's buisness hp nc6000 has that thing too all u have to do is go to the power setting n choose maxium performance in ethier plugged in or not

Yeah, it's called Enhanced SpeedStep, and it's pretty dumb to turn it off when you're on battery. It will automatically raise the CPU speed under load, then lower it when you're not doing anything to save power.

speed step also turns off the processor in between keystrokes and all sorts of weird stuff too. Plug the machine in and see if you can get it back up to full speed.

So, say I'm crunching a database, should I hold down the space bar the whole time to keep my CPU running full-speed?

and if thats not good enough, here is a newer version which is live.

before bashing someones comments, or in this case FACTS, do some research. The point of speedstep is to have it reduce voltage when the processor isnt being used to it's full potential so your battery lasts longer. If you don't like it, dont get a pentium m series processor.

Actually it is sort of true. Original power saving technologies developed by IBM back in the day actually did deactivate something, I think it was the CPU, in between keystrokes. Or so the IBM executive who runs their entire Server division told me
