Personally, I think it's amusing to see people with $400 video cards giving people with $600 video cards grief for spending too much money. Friends, these are all luxury items.
A few weeks ago, I helped a friend order a desktop system from Dell. He's mostly a business guy, but he does enjoy playing CS. When the video card options came up, he balked at "upgrading" to a $150 video card. He said, "Who spends $150 on a video card?" I said, "Some people buy two $600 video cards and run them together." He was flabbergasted. But this same guy just bought a $35,000 motorcycle to occasionally ride on weekends. In other words, it all comes down to finances and priorities. While we're certainly all free to criticize each other for misplaced priorities, we should be aware that our personal perception of value is not universal.
Comon, where's the fun in being reasonable and all? Rollo enjoys laughing at everyone who doesnt spend top dollar for top-end video cards, and I enjoy laughing at those who do.
