I have a store credit at BB that I was planning to use for a new 7800GTX card. BFG says that BB is carrying them, and there's even a link to a BB.com page, that shows the product, but no way to order.

I went to a store and they looked up the part, but it showed no inventory and none on order...

Anyone have a clue why they wouldn't be carrying these? and if they are, when and where I could get one?

thanks.

shouldn't be worth 550 now. people won't buy them if they are that high, they should make it 450 then they will make money faster.

Only because you paid $600 + for it, LOL.

LOL. Too true. The prices for the 6800 gen were too high.

I really won't jump unless:

7800NU == 250
7800GT == 300
7800GTX == 350 or 400

that's unrealistic though...so, I'd consider buying in again in the 8x generation at the 6x generation prices.

you actually think nvidia would price the GTX at $350 - $400 making it cheaper than the 6800U?? this card performs like 2 Ultras...$600 is a great deal for the card.
i totally agree with nokiadude, i own a GTX and feel its worth every penny.

Personally, I don't think ANY video card is worth 600 Dollars, I just spent less than that on my new 2005FPW and it will probably last me for 5 years, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for any video card. However, considering that it does outperform 2 ultras in SLI (which would cost about 1000, just for the cards) 600 isn't that bad, again I say "considering" but it is still insane to me.

Hmm, yes if i had a tftlcd i would'nt waste cash on a 7800GTX as your kicking the card in the teeth

I'd give it a nice 19"CRT home till i get Shallow CRT.

It's all a matter of what you're willing to spend on your hobby. Obviously the market will bear a $600 price on the 7800GTX, so MANY people must be willing to spend that.

Not everyone wants to live with the much lower level of performance and image quality you're apparently satisfied with?

Why would they be $450?

6800U and X850XT PE are $450, and this card offers much higher performance and image quality than either of those?

Apparently you just want all prices on video cards to drop $100-$150 because you think "that's what they should be", irrespective of the price supply/demand sets?

There's no insult here.

Everyone who doesn't have a 7800GTX is gaming at lower settings on modern games, without transparency AA. They've chosen to not spend the money to have the level of image quality and performance offered by the 7800GTX, and have traded the money for the lower framerates and reduced image quality.

Seems pretty straight forward to me, if you'd like to take it to PMs I'd be happy to explain further?

No need for that, thanks. There's nothing wrong with my reading/intent comprehension skills.

Apparently there is because you didn't have any words for the person I was replying to who was "LOL" at those of us who bought 7800s? Is "LOL" at someone an "insult" Creig? :roll:

Once again you prove your only role here is making backhanded attacks at me. Have you actually posted anything informative since your 9500NP modding expose'?

I really don't think you should be complaining of backhanded attacks so soon after "Not everyone wants to live with the much lower level of performance and image quality you're apparently satisfied with?".

Personally, I think it's amusing to see people with $400 video cards giving people with $600 video cards grief for spending too much money. Friends, these are all luxury items.

A few weeks ago, I helped a friend order a desktop system from Dell. He's mostly a business guy, but he does enjoy playing CS. When the video card options came up, he balked at "upgrading" to a $150 video card. He said, "Who spends $150 on a video card?" I said, "Some people buy two $600 video cards and run them together." He was flabbergasted. But this same guy just bought a $35,000 motorcycle to occasionally ride on weekends. In other words, it all comes down to finances and priorities. While we're certainly all free to criticize each other for misplaced priorities, we should be aware that our personal perception of value is not universal.

After spending 600 dollars I can see why people become so patriotic defending their investments. I think it's pretty ridiculous to belittle someone without a 7800GTX when they came out only a few weeks ago.

By that logic, an althon64 should cost millions, and be worth every penny. After all, it's way better than a server cluster of 486's would have been.

Sorry for the rediculous analogy, but my point is -- each new generation of video cards (up to this point) have not been priced such that they cost the same as the previous generation in terms of $/performance. The 7800GTX should represent a new generation, and as such, be sold at the same price as a similarly positioned card of the previous generation.

Don't worry Creig, I also saw the backhanded condescension/insult of Rollo's post but if he chooses not to see it, oh well.

Although Rollo's statement seemed like a backhanded insult, it was really just a statement of fact. The 7800GTX offers performance, image quality, and settings that no other card can match right now. And this is coming from someone who had only used ATI cards since the release of the 9700Pro. because I wasn't swapping until a card was released that truly beat what I had.

After getting the 7800GTX and putting it through it's paces, it really is as good as people say it is, given that you are running at high resolutions with the eye candy turned on. If you are running at lower resolutions (1280 or lower) then you won't see as huge a gain.

But Rollo was right on it with his statement, that was just that. A true statement.
