7800GS @ 3360x1050

I'm just wondering if the GeForce 7800GS supports the resolution of 3360x1050 (a pair of widescreen 20" LCDs) within games?

I know the card can drive the displays to run at this resolution within windows, using the Horizontal Span option within nView. I'm running these displays that way right now.

My question comes because I can't get World of Warcraft to recognize this resolution.

For several months, I have been running World of Warcraft as a dual-screen setup, using the fabulous How-To (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/t...052602&pageNo=4). Everything ran find on the two 19" CRTs I was running at a combined resolution of 2560x1024 (2 x 1280x1024). WoW could run at that resolution just fine.

I just today got a pair of 20.1" widescreen LCDs (Samsung 205BW), which run at 1680x1050. When I load WoW in dualview mode, I can select 1680x1050 without a problem, to display on a single monitor. However, if I use Horizontal span (within my nVidia nView settings), to span my display across both monitors and then launch WoW, I am not given the option of running the game at 3360x1050 (2 x 1680x1050). Even worse, I cannot select any resolution other than 800x600 or 1024x768.

I posted a thread about this on the WoW forums (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/t...8811516&sid=1#0), in which a tech at Blizzard stated the issue may be that my video card doesn't trun at this resolution. I find this odd, as I've said, I'm running that resolution right now.

- XFX GeForce 7800GS AGP 256MB
- nVidia ForceWare 91.47
- (2x) Samsung SyncMaster 205BW 20.1" LCDs (1680x1050 native)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't... I think each monitor independantly operates @ 1680x1050. Personally I would have gotten a 24" screen instead of dual monitors if I was gaming. Dual monitors are useful for word processing, multitasking and programming, but I don't like the gap in the middle of the two screens for games. Is that resolution an option when you go into the display screen of the control panel? Welcome to the forums!

If the graphics card can run in 2D mode at that resolution it should be able to run in 3D mode too, just a little slower.

Do any other games work? I'll go see what happens with 2x1680x1050 on my 7800GT.

It's a WoW problem. I'm running BF2 at 3360x1050 at an acceptable FPS. I chose "Multiple display performance mode" under "Hardware acceleration" under "3D settings" in the new NVIDIA control panel. I'm also using horizontal span.

Thanks for the info, xtknight. You're right, it looks like a WoW issue.

Oh well. The game looks great at 1680x1050.
