7800GT vs X850XT?

How much extra framerates would I expect from a 7800GT over a X850XT on games like WoW and BF2? My system is a....

Shuttle SN25P
3200+ Venice
2GB OCZ Platinum

Wow doesnt need a high end graphics card.

A 6800GT pushes just fine, even on raids and in main cities during primetime, with everything cranked, and at 1600x1200.

Unless you have a display that is higher resolution than that (2405fp, etc.) you certainly dont need a 7800GT for WoW.

Battlefield 2 on the other hand will take all the graphics card you can throw at it.

What about the image quality,which is better between the 2? My herc 9800xt just died.... Now deciding to stay with ATI or change to Nvidia. Thks in advance.

If you are buying 7800GT is much better overall IMO.

Without a doubt, image quality is significantly better on the ATI X800 cards. The AA/AF filtering on the 7800 cards gives lots of texture shimmering, really detracting from the image quality, while the X800 images are almost completely clean. You can switch the Nvidia driver to high quality mode and that eliminates some of the texture aliasing, but the image quality is still inferior to the X800. And you lose quite a bit of performance, narrowing the performace gap between the 7800GT and X850XT.

Think what you want, Hacp. I would happily buy a 7800 card if Nvidia would just clean up their image quality problems. I'm not gonna plop down 400 buciks on a video card only to get in game and see the ground textures wiggling around and waving at me. If I want to see a psychedelic pixel display, I'll turn on WMP and watch the visualizations.

There's a good analysis. Just go through the pages, starting with that one. The X850XT "Platinum" gets pounded by the 7800GT. And the Platinum has a higher clock than the standard X850XT.

7800GT ftw. Get two if you can

Here's the raw specs on both cards...the GT is faster in 3dmark05 despite not having the memory bandwidth or fillrate of the x850...so you can see how a new architecture compares to an older one...plus the GT overclocks like mad and has tons more features...I'd say get the 7800GT, no contest...

Having had a bunch of different nVidia cards thru the past, and NONE of them actually working right - Wrong texturing etc.:thumbsdown: , I got myself a 9600Pro - and now a Enmic/HIS 9800Pro. I´ll recommend the ATI cards for whoever need graphics.

The X800XT or the X850XT will be Xcellent choices to my concern, as far as in some games (and resolutions) it is on par with a 7800GTX.

(A friend of mine just bought a X800XT for ~400$ in DK, which is good value for money).

Obivously the textures with alphas could use some work, but the effect with TSAA makes for a much smoother view. Though once you get right up to the nintendo textures, even the 7800 can't help you...

Dude, you're exaggerating. I was playing BF2 for a long time last night at 19X14 2X8X. I never noticed anything irregular about the picture.

If you have to LOOK for it, it's not that big a deal.

LOL I just went into the game to look for it, and could see why I didn't notice it before. :roll:

IMO there are three kinds of people who would complain about this:
1. ATI employees
2. People trying to justify not having the best/2nd best card at the moment
3. People that like to complain.

I was honestly expecting something a lot more noticeable like the texture crawl you get without AF.

What I saw for the shimmer was a joke.

The X850XT is little more than an X800XT, so just increase the X800XT numbers very slightly to get an idea of the X850XT vs the 7800GT if you want to be so pedantic.
As I mentioned in the post where I added the link, I did say X800XT, but since it's 99% the same as the X850XT it doesn't really make much difference.

Yes - the X800XT. I saw it at my friends place, and it is beautiful - especially for the price!
Remember U need to stack up a couple of hundred more for a 7800... - and ATI is making new things too, so even the X850XTs should start to drop soon

PS: The reason not recomending the X850XT is price - but if that´s no concern get THAT!!
And yes - they are not faster than 7800, but imho. I don´t think that´s nescessary. There is actually some gametests on the net, where the 7800 do not shine soo much - especially if U use AF & AA in high resolutions.

Framerate Isn´t everything - as long it is high enough, and it will be even with the X800XT!
