So, Im having problems to choose between 7850 and 7870, even after reading a lot of reviews, but mostly are back when they were launched, so...

7850 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127663
7870 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150604

My budget is ~250 USD(but I can push to 300 if really needed), and I plan to get a second card and xfire by the end of the year.
Not sure if I am going to overclock, gaming purposes only and running in 1280x1024 resolution (I do plan on getting a better monitor though, with 1900x1200 res) and using a single monitor.
And also, if any other card regardless of being AMD or NVIDIA is a better choice.
Kinda lost on which one to buy, better bang for buck and if card is reliable (have read some issues with 7800 series) ty for help in advance

you have a gtx460 and use a 1280x1024 monitor so just wait until you actually get a new monitor and see what deals are happening then.

Even if not 30% faster, but if it is 10-15%+ faster when both are overclocked, then $20 for a 7950 instead makes a lot of sense

The thing is, I live in South America, and my dad will come from USA in 2 months, and I plan buying the monitor afterwards, the difference when it comes to price is just huge, if I buy it here it will be such a waste, the price doubles at least.
I will definitely wait for 660ti but just trying to know my options... (and maybe even get the 660ti depending on performance/price)
Just suppose Gaming @ 1900x1200 res, what is the best choice now? considering any card at 200-300$ price range regardless of which store (reliable stores)
and ty all so far, helping a lot =)

The 7850 is the best value if you want to overclock and you get a card with a decent cooler but the 7870 is also pretty fast and can be overclocked to reach stock 7950 speeds.

Personally I would buy the 7850 over the 7870 because it is the best value. The 7950 is also a good choice as it is a great overclocker but it does cost more.

Either the 7850 or the 7950 would be good choices.

Link the $290 ($270AR) 7950s please. I'm in the market for at least one.
The only links I could give you would be for Canadian deals. They have been going for around $290 after rebate lately. I think that the 7950 makes much more sense than the 7870 given the very small price difference.

I agree that 7950 is worth the added cost, but checking NewEgg it appears as if the 7870 went down in price again.

$250AR is a really good price for a 7870. Especially if you consider the 7950's are going for >$300 currently. $320AR is the cheapest on on the egg. That's $70 (28%) more.

The equivalent 7850 for $210AR ain't too shabby either. That cooler is not too likely to be a great O/C'er though. Doubt you'll be seeing north of 1.2GHz on it.

The vent openings on that XFX card look quite small in surface area. Are they big enough to vent the fan well? Otherwise that card is very interesting for me as it's said to be just 9.5" long, same as my 4870. A 7950 would not fit in my case without me having to saw some of my HDD cage.

Yes, wait for the GTX 660, it will shake up the prices quite a bit. Maybe even wait a week or two after it launches to get the best deal.

If the GTX 660 is $300 or more do you guys feel it will still have an impact on 7850/7870 pricing?
