lmao!

yea it could be.
but i have air coming in my case right over my cpu, then it exausts out of the back and top of the case. if i reversed the fan, it would have to fight against that flow.

down is fine

OK, I got the new PSU in there in conjunction with my 300 watt. Here is the setup:

250 watt PSU w/ P4 connector: Powering the motherboard ONLY. Using the P4 12v connector, ATX connector, and 1 molex connector.

Antec 300 watt PSU: Powering everything else (7 fans + PSU fan, 2 HD's, 1 DVD-ROM, 1 ZIP250, 1 floppy)

The results...

The 250 watt PSU running the motherboard/CPU is at 11.37v on the +12v rail at idle with the core at 1.75v, and theother rails do not show any impact.

The 300 watt PSU seems much more stable now, as the fans are running at full speed and not fluctuating under load anymore as they did previously, although I do not have any voltage readings for you.

I tried pushing to 160Mhz FSB at 1.7v on the core and it boots fine, but I get a bluescreen after about 10 minutes of Prime95. At 166Mhz FSB Windows will not boot and bluescreens right before displaying the Windows XP login screen.

My conclusion is the new power supply helped with the stability of the 12v rail to the motherboard as it does not seem to fluctuate as much as it did before and also the fans obviously no longer spin down when the system is under load. The only thing I see here is that the 12v rail to the motherboard is still kina low--around 11.4v idle--although I'm not sure if this would matter anymore when using two power supply's, but I'd like to see how others see this and maybe get some suggestions and opinions.

At any rate, I now have 550 watts of power in this system

yep the 12v rail is still way too low.
but the 2 PSUs are more stable at least for now.
plan on getting a better PSU when funds permit - and sell off the other 2.

Yeah, but it is still a bit higher than it was before and the 12v and core voltages are holding almost perfectly stable now at idle or load, whereas before they would fluctuate even when sitting at idle. The P4 connector ust have helped out with that, plus moving all those other fans and drives off the same PSU. Next is an Alpha 8942 and the voltage mod Must... have... 2.6Ghz!!!

Looking at the voltage readouts from ASUS Probe, instead of MBM5, I am showing the +12v rail holding stable at around 11.968v at idle. That sounds much better and is also very close to the results I get when looking in the BIOS for voltages.

Also, I am not running MBM5 and ASUS Probe at the same time... I know this has been discussed before, but I just think MBM5 is just plain wrong on the voltage readings from this board and it is off by quite a bit too.

EDIT: MBM5 is only wrong on the +12v rail though; everything else checks out fine as compared to ASUS Probe.

it has a smaller dash - i just use the high/low screen most of the time anyways.
very accurate to PCprobe.
give it a try

I just gave MBM4 a try and it is indeed accurate on the 12v rail, showing 11.97v steady. Although, I like the dashboard in MBM5 better... I hope Alex gets this fixed up in his next release!

hmm, I'm running at 1.76v right now with fairly good temps using stock cooling. Maybe I should go ahead and do the wire mod now and just make sure the temps under load do not go over 55C. My guess would be that to get 166Mhz FSB I'm going to need 1.82v on the core, from looking at what Thugs has got at different voltages and where I am at those speeds. What do you think? Go ahead and do it now? I am already at 1.76v TRUE voltage...

Is that Alpha Heatsink better than the swiftech?

and how does it compair to this?

CPU-Cool 478

many people say this is the best P4 heatsink.

He is using this heatsink Alpha PAL8942T .
It is probably the best out there.
The one u named is AKA "AVC Sunflower". (Also a very good Heat Sink)
But the Alpha PAL8942T is the king of all time so far.
