OK, I got mine all setup!!!

Here are the specs:

Intel Pentium 4 1.6A Ghz CPU (Costa Rica SL668, Packed 3/20/02)
ASUS P4B266-C
512MB Samsung PC2700 SDRAM

With the settings of Turbo1, 150Mhz bus and 1.60 volts, I can get 2.4Ghz perfectly stable so far. Very nice!

Now, this thing has a lot more in it as I'm only at 1.6v (I may not even need to be this high either, but I just put it there anyway ), but my 12v rail is down to 11v! (Antec 300watt PSU). And, when the CPU goes to 100% load, the fans wind down a tad bit--enough to hear them do it anyway.

So, I need a new PSU before I can take this puppy to 166 FSB and I'll also need to do the wire mod to get more power for this puppy.

This is with default RAM settings as well, Turbo1. Very, very nice! I can't wait to get the new PSU since I think I'll be able to hit what THUGSROOK got at 166 FSB once I have more juice

I'll keep everyone updated

yes you need a new PSU
you may not need the wire mod - dont do it if ya dont have to.
you do have the overvolt jumper enabled, right?

No, I haven't set the over volt jumper... I should do that That's probably why it wouldn't let me boot at 1.7v I might be able to get 2.5Ghz with this PSU! Well, maybe not... but it's worth a try!

To both Thugs & Nighthawk...
Did you guys use 2 x 256MB sticks or 1 x 512MB stick of RAM?
Thanks for the info and nice work!

1x 512mb corsair XMS2700 cas2

1x 512 is better then 2x 256. (plus better upgradability)

thx

Is an Antec 300W PSU good enough for a 1.6a system? I bought the Antec SX830 with 300W PSU hoping that it would have enough power. I would just like to hit 2.2 or higher. Is it ok?

just for the heck of it - i booted up at 2800mhz / 175fsb.
but i dont have enough voltage to make heavy loads 100% stable
runs windows just fine & i got a screenshot of WCPUid while i was there
(i dont have anyplace to post it tho)

oh well - back down to 169fsb til i Prime95 it

Man don't tell me that, I bought the SX830 at a good price. A 400W supply is going to make this case more expensive than it is worth. I have never built my own system, so this will be a good learning experience. Hopefully, this 300w will get me by.

<< Did u ever think that your cpu might be one of Intel's engineering samples??????? :Q >>

Well, since he bought it from Newegg, highly doubtfull!
I wish that Newegg was selling Engineering samples though!!!!

Nighthawk69 and all those with antec PSUs.. Don't get a new PSU until you try this. You can adjust the voltage rails of the antec PSUs easily. I had an enermax 300W which allowed me to do 150 fsb on Th7-2 but when I put antec 400W it will only go upto 145. I also noticed the 12V rail was lower so I did the mod and it is stable at 150 with the Antec as well.

This is for the 400W PSU but I think the 300W would not be different, just opend and see inside.
BTW, turn the pot by a small amount. For me 1/4 turn was enough. At first, I had turned it by half turn and it would not boot uu.

Hmm, interesting. When I enable the over voltage jumper, I can't boot... is there something about tge jumper that I'm missing? Do I need more power just to enable it?

Thanks
