Hey,

recommendations for power supplies?

looking for bare minimum but obviously want it to be stable, tried using my current 350W Antec and it just ain't cuttin' it (crashing all over the place)

Have 3x HDDs, 1DVDRW, OC'ed A64

some quick pointers would be great!

I have a similar set up to what your running and I am using an Enermax Liberty 500.
Just installed a 7950 GX2 and it rocks.

update here, my woes have become much more complicated:

I went and picked up a 600w OCZ Powerstream, and it didn't help my problems a smidgen...
my best results were flying around in BF2142 for about a minute then having the machine hard lock. The display blinks before it crashes (goes black for a second) and there will be random corruption from time to time.

I have tried: Updating the BIOS on my MB (Epox 9nPA+ Ultra nforce4), updating nvidia drivers (93.71), resetting everything to stock speeds, re-seating the card a bunch of times, and obviously replacing the power supply.

Any thoughts? I have a sinking feeling that this card just isn't compatible with my board (of course it isn't on nvidia's list but I thought since it has an nvidia chipset it would be ok)

Can you run the card fine with one of the GPU's disabled (i.e. no SLI)?

Have you run Driver Cleaner?

Update the 2nd,

I think the card is overheating, whenever I turn the system on you can hear the fans whir for a second, and then they aren't heard again...at one point I was mucking around so much that the system wouldn't post, yet I could hear the fans on the video card going full blast unlike any time when the system would boot.

Also it seems to be a time based issue, when I first boot everything seems fine and gets progressively worse each time after that.

So the $350 question, why don't the fans work right, and can I somehow fool them to run at their max? I know its not a particular problem with the card because I purchased it off a co-worker (gaming fanatic who is never off his PC) and he never had an issue with it, so it has to be an issue in my computer (the MB I guess).

To answer your question, yes, tried it in dual-display mode which seemed to help but only delayed the crashes somewhat, and yes, ran driver cleaner before putting the new drivers in.

Hiper PSU.

These guys are new to the US market but have been selling PSUs in the UK for some time now. The price is VERY cheap but the quality surpases the usual big guys: antec, enermax etc.

I got fed up with the big PSU makers after repeated problems. I dropped a Hiper in and haven't had a single problem. My load:

7950gx2
Dual 10krpm raptor drives.
Single 500GB SATA drive.
Dual core cpu
4 80mm fans
cold cathode lighting
Dual CD/DVD burners.
Fully loaded USB

Note, the link above goes to a blue PSU. They make several colors but even plain black looks beautiful. It has a Car finish and lots of silver and black chrome.
