I shoulda got the XFX I guess lol, its got some nice add-ins and I didn't need the 8-pin adapter. I'm not sure you want to use it though as it says right on it that it can be unstable and isn't recommend for use long-term.
If you have a MicroCenter or similar near you, I'm pretty sure you can buy one or even make one with 6 and 8-pin connectors. Otherwise I can send you mine for cost of shipping I guess, even though I like to keep all accessories for potential resale. Anyways LMK.
Thanks a lot for the offer. What kind of adapter do you have exactly? Does it connect all five ground wires (black ones) on the 8-pin side to the two 6-pin plugs, or only some of them?
Unforunately, there aren't any decent computer stores around here. The closest Microcenter seems to be in NYC, which is a fair distance away, and their site has nothing relevant on it.
As for the warning, I looked a bit into that and it seems that Nvidia is being somewhat overcautious, similar to what they do with their general PSU recommendations. The card uses a maximum of 235W (and typically more like 180-200W according to the reviews), which would be just about covered by two 6-pin plugs along with 75W from the slot itself. They may have included the additional power capability for heavy overclocking more than anything else, similar to what the 6800U or 2900XT had. At any rate, I figure it won't hurt to try it out. I saw at least two reviews where they used the adapter and reported no problems.

This is what you need, but it's not exactly cheap for something that should come with the card IMO. I suggest you email XFX and they likely will send one out free of chage. I've had excellent luck with XFX support in the past.

That will indeed work, but it comes out to $20 once shipping is added. I don't know why they're charging so much for something that should just come in a padded envelope.

I'm guessing that PSU has 2 pci-e connectors and he will use them for the 8-pin connector, then use two 4-pin molex's for the 6-pin PCI-e.
Yes, exactly. It will look a little clumsy but it's better than buying a new PSU just for that plug. The card does come with the 6-pin/molex splitter, although I already have a couple of those.
