Just picked up RX for Pataday (Olopatadine HCl 0.2% eye drops) Before insurance it was $140, I only paid $20 copay.
$140/2.5ml 0.2% bottle, means that Olopatadine HCl sells for $28,000/ml = $830,000/fl oz.

I don't know how much they spent on developing, hopefully not too much, I can't say it's working all that great after a couple days, though it says it's supposed to be fastest acting. But gonna give it a couple weeks before following up with my opthalmologist.
I am sure they spend a lot marketing to eye care professionals though. You kinda have to to get away with selling something for $830,000/oz

Where are you getting $28,000/ml from? :O

Ahh 0.2%. My eyes glazed over that

I used to handle some reagents meant for cancer research. 0.1ml was around 300$ I cannot say if it was diluted or not.

I am NOT suggesting socialized health care is the answer to any problems, but, if it happens, the drug companies and medical equipment companies will have no one to blame but themselves.

you're right, if you consider that you are only paying for Olopatadine HCl, as opposed to anything else in the bottle, the bottle itself, the cost to distribute, market, research, develop, etc etc

in other words, you're wrong

Yet, billions of people owe their health and livelihood to the fact that these companies invented these drugs in the first place. Let's get over the pharmaceutical industry boogie monster.

Well, thanks for assuming my position and saying something irrelevant.
Now that you have that down, take it P&N and test it on someone like yourself.

"companies" did not invent them. "scientists" invented them "companies" exploited peoples need for them by placing the cost of many drugs so high, or withholding the drugs that the prices stayed high.

Its not like these companies are exactly struggling.

A few years back I came down with Guillain Barre syndrome and was hospitalized for 5 days. During my stay, the hospital gave me five, 20 gram does of Immunogloblin G, which helped slow the disease. When I got the bill, I nearly passed out because the cost of the meds alone was ~$60k. Apprently the stuff is hasrd to isolate.
