850 or 845 chipset?

I am going to be building one mother of a machine. So overclocking will not be a major issue to me. What I need to know is which chipset will preform faster. If I did the 850 chipset it would be a Abit TH7II-Raid with 2 512 meg rimm sticks. If I got the 845 chipset I would get a soyo P4I dragron with 2 512 meg ddr sticks (pc2700). Now....Which one will be better... running a 2.2 p4. I tried doing some searching on the forums but found no information. Thanks.
Forgot to machine that this is going to be a gameing machine. geforce 4 etc.

The 850 system with rambus would be faster.

If overclocking, get the i845.
If not, get the i850.

The SIS645 is a good option too, but you don't seemed to be strapped for money like most of us. If money's not an issue, then i850. I personally like the Asus P4T-E best when it comes to the i850 chipset.

If you care about future expandabilty, then I would stick with DDR solutions. If you ever decide to move to AMD from Intel, you can always use the DDR sticks. Otherwise, if you get Rambus, you'll need to buy new DDR sticks for AMD solutions.

With the money he's throwing around there, I don't think he is worried about expandability or anything. He seems like one of those guys that throws his old system (that is better than most of our systems already) in the closet and builds a new one.

850 oc's just as good as 845-D. Go 850. It is faster than 845-D is all situations, and if you oc a 1.6A to 533fsb on a Abit TH7II or Asus P4T-E, and use Samsung PC800, you can easily oc to 533fsb+PC1066 speeds which blow any overclocked 845-D setup.

Its all about what memory you want to use or are comfortable with 845 sdrram, 845D ddrram , or 850 rdram.Rdram is the fastest and pretty cheap now , I use ddr and it works well to . Good Luck.

Thanks for all your feedback. You are making sound like I am the richest person in the world. The reason I am building a new computer is because its for a graduation gift from my parents. They said they would spend about 2000 on a computer... I have used this same computer for forever (1.2 thunderbird)....I was a hardcore intel fan but I decided to try amd...for some reason we didn't hit it off so i am moving back to intel. Now i am in the position of which is better asus or abit. I have loved abit boards in the past..bh6....etc. But i am not afraid to try new things....what do u guys think.

If you aren't overclocking, Intel boards are always the best
Unless you want non-standard features, like a RAID controller
