the first people that will openly tell us, are going to be reviewers with pre release prescotts and the boards we have. i'm not sure how cooperative the mobo makers are going to be about telling us if it works.

now we can start making a grid. anybody want to send me a prescott to test in my IS7 or 865PE Neo2?

Does anyone have any definitive info on this? I just tried searching, and every site says something different. Some say it will be socket 478, some say no. Some say current 875 mobo's will support it, some say no. So does anyone know for sure if any CURRENT 865 or 875 mobo's will support it? The only thing for sure I see about it is being .09u die.
Thanks...

The 3.4 has been slated for 478 all along and still is -- there is just a voltage change like with Tualatins that, like with Tualatins, makes most mobos incompatible.

The Asus P4P page claims it has the proper voltage support for Prescott but this has not been verified by anyone yet -- it might or might not be true.

because some people want to buy a mobo now, with say a 2.6c, then upgrade just the CPU to 3.4 later.

Prescott will work fine, just be sure to get a Costa Rican one and disable pat, gat, mam, rat, fart, tat, prat, and use bison pc6000 ram with led titanium heat waffles.

no, pc6000 has little batter tubes so you can cook breakfast with it. mmm, waffles. don't forget the Active Syrup 3.

now think about that...what would your 2.6 NOT do that the 3.4 WILL do?

I'm gonna guess...nothing. Uh huh you heard it here first. The 3.4 Prescott will do the same crap .000123213 seconds faster! WOOT!

BLECH!

my point was...nobody will know until working hardware is available and people try it

Exactly. I wanted to get a new 865/875 mobo now, and would like to know which if any are going to support a Prescott.

I doubt that since it will not only be 800mhz faster, but also twice the cache with 2mb versions out soon after.

From what I've been able to find out so far; either the Abit IC7 or IS7 (or maybe it was both) claim Prescott support. I was doing some searches on one them and saw this info, but it's NOT at Abit's site. The Gigabyte 8KNXP and 8PENXP say Prescott support IN THEIR MANUALS. This seems like a risky thing since from what I've seen so far, no one website knows for sure what kind of socket these things are going to be. I wonder if Inhell really knows.

still are you saying that getting over 100fps in every game is not good enough? OMG you must work for Pixar!? No or you'd not even use windows or P4s...hrm...maybe you work for Dell and need to know if you have to redesign your proprietary mobos? No that's not it you say?

SO then the answer is this...you're gonna spend $200+ on a CPU now and $100+ on a mobo now and another $300+ or $400+ on prescott when released but won't spend $100+ on a mobo that actually supports it? hrm...let me see you can afford a new CPU/Mobo now but not a new mobo 6 months from now

No no no.......I'm not even a gamer, no time for that working 12hrs a day, 7 days a week. CPU is only $161 (2.4ghz, HT, 800mhz bus). Even though I'm using a 1.8ghz Northwood now @2.4ghz, I MIGHT get one of the 2.4ghz/800 CPU's now, to put on a new 865/875 mobo......(since the Prescott CPU's will probably be too high for a year or so) and IF any current mobo's I'm looking at will support a Prescott. I probably won't get a mobo now if with CERTAINTY the Prescott is going to take a completely new platform; I'd just wait since I'd probably ending up using a non Prescott supported 865/875 for only a ~year. Hell yeah I'd get a mobo now that DEFINITELY supports it, heck that's what I'm looking for and trying to find out! I never said anything to the contrary. I think most everyone's goal; mine certainly is, is to try and get something that is not going to be paraded off in the ever growing quagmire of obsolescence in 6 months...or less. Finding a 865/875 mobo NOW that will with CERTAINTY support a Prescott, is what I'm looking for. Then I could get it, maybe the CPU mentioned above and use that until the Prescotts come down in price.

My point in the comparison of the two CPU's in question you mentioned, is that you're going to see a lot more performance increase than the hypothetical ".000123213 seconds faster" you mentioned. I realize you were speaking figuratively or facetiously, but it would be a marked improvement in performance. That's a big jump: 2.6ghz/512k, to 3.4ghz/1mb.
