I am having serious trouble with my 8800GTX. I was playing bioshock fine when it was released. suddenly after installed the nvidia beta driver that supports bioshock, the game became super lagged, and 3dmark06 dropped from 10xxx to 4435.

take a look at my score

things i tried:
installed This HOTFIX recommended by nvidia
uninstall driver always use driver sweeper to clean.
on riva tuner 2.04 set shader to either 2.0 or no override

drivers i tried:
all 163 series drivers, including latest beta(today 163.71) or WHQL 163.39

my spec:
E6600 @ 3.6ghz
2GB pc6400 ram
p5b-d mobo
8800gtx with hr-03 heatsink @ 640/1000
x-fi xtrememusic
antec TB-II 480w

Over heat is not the problem, everything is very cool, the 8800gtx load at 54C. i don't know what's causing this.

please help

1) Clean with Driver Cleaner in Safe Mode
2) Use the Cab Cleaner utility in Driver Cleaner and clean all of the CAB you see in Safe Mode
3) Come back to normal Mode and install official drivers (final, WHQL from nvidia.com)
4) Make sure that "Threaded Optimization" is set to "Auto" in your Control Panel (official nvidia ForceWare Control Panel)
5) Make sure that "Triple Buffering" is set to "Off" in your Control Panel

Try all of the above and try 3DMark06 again and come back to let me know.

Id be worried about that antec 430 on a 8800GTX , its sweating like an irishman in africa......if not its almost dead like that irishman would be after a few hours in the desert.

While I agree 100% that a 430W PSU can be low considering it's a GTX and not a GTS, the guy still mentions that he was playing fine before installing Beta drivers and he managed to get a "good" score of 10K+, which would indicate that, as surprising as it may seem, his PSU is efficient and doing a fine job keeping up with that sucka of a GTX.

I found out my antec PSU is 480w. so it's giving enough juice so far, but pretty close. which driver cleaner you guys suggest to use. I don't want to spend $$ on that driver cleaner software.

other thoughts?

I think it's probably the drivers not working very well with certain builds.

I'm thinking of rolling back myself. I was doing fine with the early 163 builds, doing about 105fps on the CS Source video test and the Windows 3d app score was a 4.8 for my 7800GT, but now I recently retested it after I installed 169.69 and Windows now says I'm a 4.4. Additionally I'm only doing 45fps in the CS Source test now. Makes no sense because I was doing the CS source video test almost weekly previously and had always averaged 98-110fps in that test (at 1200x1024).

It could be very well that your card that's gone 1/2 way south.
Is there another rig where you can plug in and try?
It sounds like the card seems to operate in "throttle" mode.

do you mean the card is half dead? or i can somehow re-enable the other half back to normal speed?

is it possible that microsoft hotfix messed things up? on my first post i link that hotfix, anyone tried it and had problems? if so how do i uninstall the hotfix?

You do realise the the new whql drivers on Nvidia's site are the same ones that were recommended for Bioshock but with the WHQL, you need to go back and install the drivers that were giving you the 10xxx score just to see.

Typically, lack of power from the psu would prompt the card to operate in "throttle" or 2d mode to protect the card from any more anomalies.
It's not though impossible but it's very difficult for firmware or update to destroy your card.
I'd check for loosed (power) cables or such.
If you use XP, go to system restore and restore using the checkpoint before the update.
Good luck!

I tried went back to 162.22 which works great for everything, but still no luck... the only possible cause remaining is lack of power from PSU? I don't use XP, i had vista 32bit. how do i go restore, do i lose everything i downloaded and installed during that period? or just the setting rollback?

Click the vista start menu, type System Restore in the search field. Restore the system to a date previous to the date you tried the beta drivers.

i also think its the PSU, i'm using a OCZ 600watt Epsilon to power my 8800gts and i get about 6-7k.

all else fails, try a complete reformat if u can't identify the problem

I seriously think that the dual rail +12v in your psu is shot.
The restore may not help you much at all at this point in time but it wouldn't hurt to try, imo.
It's probably coincidental that when upgrading the driver and the psu went south simultaneously.
The 450w psu for the gtx is looking for trouble to begin with.
I believe by getting yourself a much beefier psu (~ 600w or so) will get your gtx back on its feet again.

Oh snap a 430w PSU? Ya I think you're going to need more power, these cards use half that themselves under load. Take into account your sound card, mobo, CPU overclocked, not to mention your harddrives and cdrom/dvd drive. Should get a better PSU 600w or so.

Guys, someone told me to check CPU-Z at mainboard tab to see the pci-e speed, the Link Width said 1x, isn't that support to be 16x?

take a look at the picture link below and tell me how to fix it please.

This might be the problem
