Ok, so I just built my own and I think it works better than anything I could ever buy.
This is what I did today while I had some time to play. (Being laid-off has its advantages)
Knowing I have a dozen or so 92mm fan grills, I pondered how I could attach one to the Alpha 8045 I have.
And after I compared an 80mm on top of my 92mm grill,
it was easy to see that the holes for the screws were just below that of the 92mm holes.
So I figured I would go to the hardware store and see what I could come up with.
Well, I found some doodads in the electric area that were for holding a 1/8in wire, and had a hole that clamped it down.
They fit a little loose, but after I wrapped a little elctrical tape around each of the 4 corners of the grill, they snugged right up.
After seeing this was going to work, I cut all the grill loops out of the grill, except for the very inside & ouside loops.
I attached this to my heatsink via the new holes I had as a result of the wire holders now wrapped around the neck of each hole in the grill.
As it turns out, this is almost EXACTLY 80mm in distance....too cool !
Keep in mind that my grill is not sitting square to the heatsink as a 80mm would...rotated just as far as the attached loops needed to be.
I reasoned that the fan is just a circle anyway, so no big deal there...just keep in mind to rotate in a direction that is good for you....
You dont wan't your fan to be rubbing the power supply.
After this was attached, I turned the whole thing over (and lost all my screws ) but then attached the fan via those self-tapping fan screws.
The trick left was to attach the new setup back to the motherboard....
I used a skinny screwdriver that I could reach right through the fan blades to attach & tighten the Alpha screws to the MB.
And walla !!
I now have a Adda fan that does 60CFM @ 39DB sitting on my heatsink blowing down. (No more shrowd)
My parts were about $.60 and a grill for between the heatsink & fan.
It took a couple of hours to get it right....I did had to go back to the hardware store for some more nylon washers after loosing a few
But I though you guys would want to know about this....
At the very least, it will give you some of your own ideas....
Now I picked up enough parts to do this to my Swiftech too....hehe
The sweet thing is that this will work for any size setup....just go get the grills and the wire holders.
Just remember to cut all the loops out of the middle of the "adapter" so as not create more noise and restrict airflow.
Good luck guys...
