i was planning to get this motherboard for my next upgrade for the reason that i stil have a decent AGP video card and 1G of memory. my concern is about the power connector. i noticed that this motherboard has only the 20-pin connector, and i have read somewhere that the extra 4pins on a 24-pin power connector was used to put more power/voltage to the PCIE video cards?

if im gona get this board, and somehow get the highest PCIE video card i can afford later on, will i be having power related problems for not having a 24-pin power supply?

Thanks....

PS: will my current 3200+ barton system will more or less same performance if ill only get A64 3200+?

It does seem you may need either to be mindful of the max power consumption allowed for first-gen PEG slots (~ 75W?) or select cards with their own power tap on-board. Here is the supported PCI-E graphics card test list, I see X1950XT and 7900GTX:

PCI-E Support List

However, this end of the spectrum might not be a good choice to use with PT880 Pro/Ultra. PCI-E on this chipset is limited to 4x lanes, not even 8x lanes. This doesn't have an impact at all on graphics performance on the lower end, has very little impact on the mid-range (maybe 5% at most), but could have a more significant impact on performance of high-end cards.

I used this board (actually the 939Dual-SATA2, the older version but I'm 99% sure they're just about identical) with an X1900XT for almost five months with absolutely no issues. It is a real PCI-E x16 slot.

@Synth : does your PCI-E has a separate power connector? my concern is just i might be lacking power to the pcie coz of 20-pin power conector used.

anyways, i might be getting this boards in a few days if i dont see any other reason not to...

high end video card come with MOLEX connectors 99% of the time when needed. I would be concerned much more about your PSU than your motherboard...

well my current supply is a 475watts from HEC so i think this will be sufficient...

but if most higher pcie vcards have separate power, then i guess it wont be a problem for me anymore, at least...

Whoops! How'd that happen?

OK, scratch everything I said about the PCI-E slot being limited to x4.

My power supply did have a separate 6-pin PCI-E power adapter that must be plugged directly into the card, but if your PSU does not have such a connector, grooge is right; the video card will almost certainly also come with a 4-pin Molex->6-pin PCI-E power adapter.

I'm not familiar with your brand of power supply, but 475W should be fine with a modest A64 system and X1900XT or similar.
