And here I thought that the card in question was a 9600GT. Can the thread title be any more misleading? 9600GT != 9600GSO.

Change your title to reflect this is NOT a GT card. Why did you write that knowing it was not a GT?

Damn..can you guys be any critical? By the way. Good deal on a good card. Reports are it's the same as a 8800gs, which I'm running. Great card.

Wow they're getting cheaper and cheaper.

I wish I get a chance to examine the EVGA HSF (without having to buy one). The MSI HSF isn't very impressive. It is basically a cheapie one with a plastic shield over it, not like the better MSI fansinks with heatpipes. Still, about expected for a $45 card and it is also faster than the EVGA card (50MHz higher core and a whopping 200MHz higher memory, Newegg didn't list shader speeds).

The MSI also has a longer warranty than the EVGA, though they charge a shipping/handling fee of $45 for the third year. Screw that! That's the cost of this card (AR).

yes i think its just a renamed 8800gs. but last time that one was on sale i think it was around $65, so this is a bit cheaper

The EVGA one have a better HSF. It's actually a dual slot blower, where as the MSI is just a plastic piece that covers a regular HSF. They could've easily made this into a single-slot card.

EVGA = 550/1375/1600
MSI = 600/1500/1800

The EVGA card can easily overclock to well over the MSI's stock speeds so I wouldn't worry about that too much (mine went straight to 700/1750/2000 with no issues). The free copy of Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 with the MSI combo deal might be enough to persuade some folks.

I haven't torn apart my EVGA 9600 GSO to see for myself what sort of heatsink it has. I get the impression that it's more substantial than the MSI though. It's not a 'fake' dual slot cooler like the MSI has, as mentioned above.

Also, for what it's worth, MSI rebates take far longer than EVGA, and MSI will do anything to avoid paying the rebate. If you do buy this card, be very careful filling out the rebate.....

The MSI is not a "regular" fansink, but a thicker one that takes dual slots. IMO it isn't that great though. I'd take a normal revised 8800 GT fansink over either of these any day. The EVGA fansink is only average. What it does do well is to exhaust the air out the back.
