Alright guys in about 2 hours I'm going out to go and buy one of these video cards, and from what I see each of them have their advantages, however the 9600 pro seems to come out on top for the most part.

The curve ball is the fact that I can get a Chaintech 5600 pro for 195$ while the Radeon 9600 pro 256mb is 210$.

I need your opinions!

Thx,

Ryan

9600 Pro... just make sure if you've been using an nVidia card that you use a program to clean the drivers off before you install the 9600 Pro. Otherwise you'll most likely have problems that would make it seem the only solution is to reformat and reinstall Windows.

I believe 9700NP are around $200 which would be a better choice IMHO, otherwise 9600 Pro 128mb version would seem the next logical choice.

You don't need 256MB on cards that slow. 256MB is kind of pushing it even on a 5900/9800P, too. I'd look for a 9700, 9600P, or 5600U, in that order (I'd like the 9600P's AA support on HL2, but you may prefer the 5600U's probably better performance in Doom 3).

Gigacube misrepresents their products. They call it "Pro" with "Lite" in small letters. Their 256mb card is no faster than a non-pro.

Don't bother.

get the Gainward or PNY 5600U, they are revision 2.
so far the ultra is still faster than the 9600!

Any card with 256MB on it is a waste of money IMO. Pick up the Radeon 9600 Pro 128, mine kicks ass.

Only get the Geforce FX 5600 Ultra if its a Rev 2 with 400 Mhz core and 750Mhz 2.2in ram .. that is the same ram used on the FX 5900 that runs at 850Mhz

ULTRA revision 2 speeds are: 400/800
Gainward Golden Sample speeds are: 450/800+

The 9700NP is the way to go for the price. It'll be faster than both the 9600P and 5600U and will probabably overclock past 9700 pro speed.

I saw this card too. This one is the rev2. The old ones are called "pro." This looks like a pretty good deal. Anyone else think so?

I think this is the Gainward rev. 2 card you were thinking of ($229):

http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=322452

The rev. 2 card uses the "flip chip," right? It's the Gainward 760 XP (Golden Sample 5600 Ultra), while the $123 Gainward card you found is, I think, the 760 that uses the older setup (5600 chipset, not Ultra).

P.S. -- The Gainward cards that use the Ultra chipsets actually say so on the box; click on the box picture and take a look at the rounded emblem on the left side of the box, the little words (i.e., GeForce FX 5600 Ultra) under the middle part (middle part has big words, i.e Ultra/760 etc.).

Be wary of all those "Ultra" cards. All these companies seemed to have adopted dishonest product naming.

9700np for <$200 will kick the ass of any 9600/5600, 5600 FC version included.

YES! BEWARE of False Advertising there on Price Watch concerning these "ULTRA" Gainward 5600 Cards - - - - MOST of those you will find are plain FX 5600 Cards - no Pro or Ultra or "flip-chip" to them. They run at the standard speeds. When you click to SEE the Tech. Details - most of them will not give you a full revelation of the specs.
ONE Retailer there is HONEST enough to tell you that the ULTRA on these Gainward Cards is deceptive.

Good Luck! Michael

Don't believe the hype. That $123 Gainward "760/Ultra" is just a plain 5600, not a 5600 Ultra.
