All three of the above we linked in the Xbitlabs post from here

So who thinks Newegg will take refunds..

EDIT: Added Scarcasm..

I'm totally confused now. You're saying it might be a 128-bit version, yet the newegg description has it as a 256-bit version. People who've called newegg to confirm reported back saying that the newegg CSR says it's 256-bit.

And now the description has changed from retail to OEM. If we wait a little longer maybe it'll also change from 256-bit to 128-bit.

I'm still going to wait on this until someone who's purchased this can report back to us.

I suspect that is exactly what will happen: they'll change the title description to 128-bit.

No, it keeps going back and forth between Retail and OEM.

Dang. You're right. Not more than 2 minutes ago it showed as OEM. Now it's back to Retial.

I wish Newegg would make up their mind.

Anyone know if newegg will take this back (no restock, no ship fees) if this turns out to be something else than what's described? I mean, wouldn't that be like false advertising?

Same PCB layout, same memory(non-BGA), and there IS a 9800PRO 128bit, appearing around the same time frame as this.

also NEITHER card is listed at Sapphire's SKU .XLS documents for Retail or Bare. So its something new.

I'd be wrong to say it isn't.

But its dang fishy..

The CSR's at newegg.com are juts reading what they are told and that it is a 256bit card.

I am willing to bet for sure that because of the mem angle and type that is is a 128bit card

BTW, 9800pro with R360 core is already $159 in Asia.

I read somewhere that they are selling 9800Pro was slower ram in Japan. I guess their trying to get rid of stock so whatever ram and stuff they have their putting on cards.

I don't have the $$ for this... but every time I have to grimace because of slow video on my 2nd monitor (radeon 8500), it makes me want to cry. So here we go.

Yes, it's Sapphire's new 128bit version of the 9800 Pro. It's still got the same GPU but the RAM has been crippled. So, you won't really be getting a 9800 Pro. As others have said, it's all pretty damn fishy.

Sent them an email asking when someone would actually reply instead of just sending read receipts. Got this in return:

"Dear Customer,

I spoke with product support, and the item pictured is a 9800 pro. It is stated as so on the bar code sticker. I asked them about the L-shaped memory set up. Unfortunately, we do not gurantee revisions. Generally, our stock moves so fast that we have the latest version or revision of everything. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to physically get our hands on our most current stock and tell you what revision we have at the moment. Also, we cannot tag a particular item for a particular order. We ship what we have, when we have it, at our discretion. We do not guarantee revision numbers unless it is specifically noted on the description on the website."

So what does this all mean? That it's not a butchered 9800 pro?

Your guess is as good as mine. I suspect it went something like this:

CS: "Hey, PS guy. Is this video card a 9800 Pro?"
PS: "Yep"
CS: "Okie dokie."

CS to me: "It says 9800 Pro. Must be a 9800 Pro!"

I'll wait until somebody gets theirs...

Well, it's too late to cancel my order. If I get it and it's a 128-bit version, I'll be calling demanding I get a 256-bit Radeon 9800 pro RETAIL as advertised.

I have emailed them twice about this. They keep saying there is no mistake. I'll refer them to this thread.

I contacted them (right after I ordered so I'd have time to cancel). They tell me there isn't a mistake.

It seems that they would HAVE to fulfil this order! I Ordered a Radeon 9800 Pro with 128MB DDR 256-bit. This is what I expect to get. I was even told there was no mistake twice.

Edit: There is a review now on the site. The customer doesn't have the card, but he says it's OEM. It said RETAIL when I ordered! I want my RETAIL Radeon 9800 Pro 256-bit!

What's up with this! I don't expect this from NewEgg!

Yep. Best of Luck to those who bought one. Hope you get the right stuff, so I can snag the leftovers.

Edit: And if you don't get the right version, then shame on NewEgg for saying it was a 256bit version. I'd go ape sheet over false advertising.

If newegg says your getting whats shown in availabe pics/screenshots, then your getting the 128 bit version.

Sorry, those who ordered will probably be out shipping, unless you take it up with newegg and really sue their *ss. ;0

Okay, here's a question:

If they're releasing 128-bit 9800 pro's, then does that mean the 256-bit 9800 pro's won't be dropping in price any time soon, if at all? Because it'd be pointless having a 128-bit and a 256-bit 9800 pro selling at the same price, unless they drop the price for both or they're going to replace the 256-bit version with the 128-bit version.

Which leads me to my next question: What would be a better performer, a 128-bit 9800 pro or a 9600 xt since they're about the same price? My guess would probably be the 128-bit 9800 pro.... not that I'd get a 9600 xt or a 128-bit 9800 pro.

I'm seeing too much price overlapping here. Aargh!

And yeap, the 128/256 bit thing is kinda shaddy, but they honestly might not even know. It is in line with the market price of the 128 bit version, so its not like you getting totally ripped, it just their webmaster screwed up nicely.

I'd at least hope they will allow full refunds for the ones purchased it that don't want it due to the change. But, dunno. The picture is identical to the 128bit version for sale in Japan..

I think some company needs a new "Guy that does product discriptions".. Just look at this one. Pwoercolor? someone is slackin on the Q-Control...

EDIT: I can't tpye either...

Go ahead and start the RMA if you want the 256 bit memory interface. They won't charge the standard 15% restocking fee, but I couldn't get them to cancell the order outright.
