Good question. All I can say is be very careful what you buy if the price seems a little too good at the moment.
Exactly...I assume many who ordered thought they were ripping Newegg off on a price mistake so I have little pity.
whoah, that's quite the leap in logic mate, how can u say u have no pity for ppl who themselves are getting ripped off? I would lay the blame much more on eihter the incompetence and ignorance of said stores employee's to relay the said information or on sapphire for still using the 9800 PRO name.
I lump it solely on sapphire for their basically illegal naming. If you go to a car dealership and buy a Mazda 6 'V6' generalyl speaking you expect to ahve a V6 under the hood. If you buy an HDTV you generally expect it to be HD. If you buy a Dolby digital receiver, you expect it can do dolby digital. If you buy a progressive scan DVD player you expect it can do progressive scan.
What sapphire did is purely illegal. They are purposely mislabelling one product as another to sell back inventory. Heck they're probably using old 9500 PCBs they ahd lying around.
To put this in perspective.... anyone remember how ticked off everyone got when Nvidia started putting 'GF2 Pro' cores in GF2 GTS cards and selling them as Pros even though they were just GTS's ??? Imagine how pised off you'd be if they sold you a GF2MX as a GF2 Pro cause that's basically what Sapphire's doing.
Personally I say boycott any company that stoops to flat out lying to its customers... as far as we know it's just Sapphire ... if it turns out ATI put them up to it, I don't think I'll ever buy another ATI video card.... I mean how the hel1 am I supposed to know what I'm getting ?
