I am wondering, if I buy a 9800 and flash the bios to a 9800 pro, is there going to be any negetive affects to this?

Also, is there any performance difference between this and buying a 'real' 9800 pro?

i've never heard of flashing a 9800 to a 9800pro.

HOWEVER, a 9800 will easily overclock to 9800pro speeds and give you almost just as much performance, especially for the price.

Where've you been? Under a rock? In a cave?

For more information on the 9800 softmod, do a search in this thread and go read up on the thread that started it all over at rage3d.com's forum under "overclocking 9800 series"

if you get the one with 2.86 or 3.3 ns samsung ram then a biosflash is fine
you can't do it if it comes with infeon memory but you'll esaily be able to overclock

Flashing only benifts the 3.3ns ram I gained 20mhz by doing it. The 2.8ns ram overclocks better with out any modifications.

That is correct, Shady. But, alas, will your 9800 be stable at 9800 Pro speeds. Ah, yes. That is the question.

If it's not, is it possible to flash back to the non-pro bios?

Sure , just be sure to backup you original bios before flashing.

I got one with the infineon 3.0 memory chips.

So the memory only does 317mhz
But the core does 430 easily with the stock cooling.

So i kept it. (for my wifes pc)
This is a MADE BY ATI 9800.

Of course I'm running a "real" 9800 pro.
(just havent updated my sig to my new system yet)

Don't flash the BIOS, overclock it instead.

Whether your card is stable overclocked has no bearing on the BIOS, which only servers to increase the native clocks speeds of the card.
