Hi. I am new to this board and new to the P5WDH. I have a couple of newbie questions and It would be great to get an answer to them.

Firstly the config is in my signature below. I am using BIOS ver 1506

I have configured the memory as advised elsewhere in this thread by Phil with

Memory speed = 800mhz
memory voltage=2.0 volts
timing = 5,5,5,12.

Q1. Why did the P5W recognise my memory as 553mhz memory rather than 800mhz? Is the change I've made in the bios to have it recognised as 800mhz considered overclocking? Are the setting Ive used appropriate for the corsair memory I have? I see there is an additional memory timing setting in the list (in the bios) after the 5,5,5,12. Its still set at the defult. is that ok?

Q2. I have read a lot in this tread about temperature. The coretemp readings I have are 57/58 at idle. Motherboard is reported as 59 by probe II. These seem higher than other peoples readings. I only have the standard FSF that ships with the E6600 and also the powersupply has a fan (and so does the x1950xtx). I'd like to experiment with overclocking, Do you think that I need additional cooling before I do - or do I need additional cooling NOW? The CPU sensor in Probe II jumps to 256 every minute or so. I have seen other people have had this issue as well, but is there a solution to this problem or should I just abandon Ausprobe II?

Q3. I am running 2 seagate sata II drives in raid zero config. It all works fine. I also have a single ide drive on the jmicron controller. When windows boots the jmicron application that auto loads at boot time always crashes. Is there a fix for this? The drive however works fine under windows once I dismiss the jmicron error message.

Thanks,

Ozjim ~

1) Most mobos boot at DDR2-533 because it can avoid trying to run value memory at a wrong speed. So just adjust the values to your rated settings. This is not overclocking if it's the memory's rated speed.
2) That idle temp is really high...you need a new HSF.

If you read the Official P5W DH thread (Yeah, I know its really long and boring) you'd find answers to your questions. Its been discussed several times in that long thread.

1)Its a known problem. Just manually set the timings to 5-5-5-12 as it should be.

2)Your temps are too high. Most likely problem is that your HSF isnt properly seated. Many have found that they needed to reseat their HSF (especially if its not the Conroe factory one) a couple times before getting it correct. CoreTemp is the preferred temp program to use with Conroe chips. ASUS Probe is inaccurate due to the location of the diodes. If you intend to overclock I highly suggest a third party hsf. You can get something as cheap/simple as the Artic Freezer7 Pro or something more involved like the Zalman 9500 or even the Tuniq Tower 120. Its your choice.

3)I'm not a raid man so I'll let others explain the answer to this question. I do know however its been discussed to great lengths in the official thread. You'll find the answer therein.
