I have just put together my first AMD system. Its a 1.2 Ghz T-Bird on a Abit KT7A motherboard. It seems it was running fairly hot last night. It kept turning off the system. The CPU fan kept going, but the monitor went black. Its not a power management issue. The VIA software that came with the board records the temp around 43-48 degrees C (Seen just after exiting a game). How hot should a AMD CPU be allowed to get? I heard 60C was the max. Should I install a better HSF (I have a GlobalWin WBK38 on it now)or case fans?
On a side note: A have the CPU clocked 10.0X12 to get 1200. Is that good or should I set it to 9X133 to get 1200? And does the clock setting affect the CPU temp much?
I'm not overclocking yet, I'm just asking about the two above mentioned clock settings. I will want to try overclocking (a little) once I get my confidence up.
Also the chip is an AXIA. I read somewhere in here (forums) that good overclocking is possible and only air cooling was required. If that was the case shouldn't my chip be running fairly cool when not overclocked?
thanks for the help in advance.
