ok...

so i am the proud owner of a inspiron 9200. i got it about a month ago as a mobile solution to a couple problems...

- i'm moving to a smaller apartment and need to ditch my desktop
- mobile entertainment
- mobile gaming

i know this isn't the best solution for gaming but with it's Pentium M 1.8 and a Mobility 9700 128, i was satisfied it could handle my needs (World of Warcraft and RTS games mostly)

ANYHOW... two nights ago i encounted a couple critical errors while using it. Ran all types of tests then went to my Dell Diag program and it came back with my ram being kaputz. so i called dell, gave them the error codes and my new stick of 512 is in the mail. no prob,

so i went to BestBuy last night hoping to buy another 512 chip so i have no laptop downtime (and then i'll also have double the ram once my chip from Dell arriveas). and after i explain to their "Geek Squad" about my laptop problems, they told me i, "Burned my RAM out" because i played WoW for 6+ hours in a row. and i would burn it out again if i play games for extended periods on time... AND if i got a gig, it would happen even faster next time due to the excess heat...

can this happen? is six hours of gaming going to kill ram? would 20 hours of gaming kill ram? my laptop is very cool even with extended periods of playing, the new dothan chips produce little to no heat... AND since i'm not overclocking or raising the voltage to my RAM, i shouldn't be putting any undue stress on those chips... sorry for this log arse post.

but the kids badge said, "Geek Squad".... they couldn't just give those out to anyone... could they?

I highly doubt that playing a game for an extended period killed the ram.
Most likely a weak stick of ram, and no matter what it would have eventually died.
