I tried building a new pc... when i power it on, all the fans and stuff are spining, but the monitor gets no signal.. and also i have to foce it to shut down by pressing the power switch at the back. I tried holding the front power button, but it did not turn off..

I must have messed something up, but i can't figure out what.

If anyone know please help out. Or a site with these troubleshoot and solution would be helpful too.

My videocard is a bfg 7800gt, I plugged the pci-e connector directly into my videocard.

I have a list of troubleshooting tips that you can look at, the bottom link on this page. If you need more help, list your complete specs (brands and models) of all of your computer components, including the power supply.

Ok good.

1) What brand and model is that 80GB IDE hard drive? If it's a Western Digital, yank the jumper cap off of the jumper pins and try now. But also check the tips listed below.

2) Did you remember to get the ATX 12V hooked up to the A8N-E, that is a biggie.

3) Is the motherboard mounted on top of standoffs, that is an even bigger biggie.

wow...Thanks so much!! i check my atx 12v ..turns out that was so lose..wasn't even funny

one more thing.. i bought another 120mm to fit into the front for my case.. problem is there is like massive cables near that fan area.. infact i think the fan barely fit..

Should i even bother with that extra fan? my case only comes with 1 rear fan. well i don't really plan to oc my cpu for a good few month, and my videocard comes factory oced.. if its not a big problem i would rather not bother with that extra fan...

btw that 80gb was a Seagate

If the cables can't be tied out of the way of the fan, then maybe try without that fan for a while, or just turn it off. If you open up your system after some hard gaming and the hard drives aren't hot, then you're ok without the front fan.

hmm i haven't gamed yet, but the harddrive seems to be getting kinda hot even with the side panel open.. my other concern is.. if i install that fan it will blow whatever hot air sucked from the hdd onto my videocard. There is no other place i can place that fan nor can i move that videocard..

i have no idea if its ok to let that fan blow warm air onto my videocard.. please help me out.

Thanks once again.

Grounding out the motherboard is a common problem.

Usual method of testing a motherboard is to test it outside of the case, before you put in the case. One way to run a test is to remove everything (at least the cords and cables). Then with just the processor and RAM and power to the motherboard and cpu fan and turn on the motherboard. If the motherboard has a buzzer on it it will beep. You might need to connect a small junky speaker to the motherboard, but most good motherboards have a buzzer of a pezio speaker. You should get a beep indicating no operating system or no disk. If you dont hear a beep, something is drastically wrong. Still can be the memory or the CPU or the cooling.

A few simple things can cause problems. Motherboard may be touching the metal case or a metal mounting post and ground out or an I/O card can be grounding out. The cooling may not be good on the processor and it may already be ruined or just overheated and automatically shut down. The fan from the Processor has to be plugged into the jumper on the motherboard for the CPU Fan or the motherboard senses there is no CPU Fan. Power supply could be bad or malfunctioning (Same as bad).

Power supplies can malfunction easily. Just plug something in and nothing works or it quits. Then there is the little square power plug. If you dont have enough power the video card will not work. I have had good luck with Antec Standard Power Supplies. They usually outlast the computer.

Video card can be installed incorrectly. Sometimes you have to plug them into a power jack off of the power supply.

If the hard drives are getting warm-hotish then I would put the front fan back and see what I can do to move the cables as much out of the way as possible.
