Hi,

I'm planning a weekend trip to New-York in mid-november (20th or the weekend after). I'd like to stay somewhere but I don't know which motels, hotels or inns are affordable. Google doesn't always have the right answer... ;-)

Should I stay in New-Jersey to pay less or there are some good affordable places in New-York?

Thank you for the help!

not worth staying outside the city, commuting is a pita

a hotel room in the city will cost you $200+ but worth it

huh?

OP, you definitely do not want to stay in Jersey. If you need to save money on lodging, look at hotels in the other boroughs such as Brooklyn, although you may find the savings minimal. This way, you can utilize 24hr mass transit.

My friends (I've known them for 20+ years already) and I are going to celebrate our 30th anniversary. I was thinking about visiting a "Coyote Ugly" kind of bar, if there's any in NY, but I don't know yet what else we're going to do. If any of you have suggestions, I'm all ears.

Are you sure you live here? If so, have you actually done anything?

I can think of enough tourist things to do to completely fill a 2 week vacation.

There are some cheaper hotels/motels in the financial district. The closer you get to midtown the more you are going to pay.

I went to see SNL last year and decided to stay at the Milford Plaza in midtown. The hotel cost something like $300 and the room was tiny and old. The location was great but the room/price was ridiculous.

Look into the Carter Hotel in Times Square. They have rooms for $99 I believe (cheaper if you book at their site). It's not a classy hotel, but my friend stayed there a couple of times and she said it was ok.
