warrenton Must be fun Professional bicyclists take in a good 10,000 calories a day as well and they are ripped. They eat like frigging pigs (good quality food though).

Gondi fasted for reasons other than loosing weight. Find another reason and people won't call it dangerous.

Exercise is da key.
If you exercise regulary and maintain a healthy eating pattern, your metabolism will burn your fat and will get you some muscle.
By fasting for a week, you only serve to slow your metabolism to next to nothing, and once you eat, all the fat in the food is going to be stored because your body will think its gonna need it for the next week or so.

Basically, once you get your weight back (10-15lbs), I'd suggest cutting down to 2 meals a day, small breakfast or small lunch and a healthy dinner.
I'd suggest that you work out every other day. Lift weights and run/jog at least 1km after your weights.
Work out after lunch. Eat supper after at least 4 hours.

Once you get to your optimal height/weight ratio, your metabolism should be self-sufficient. If you keep on that routine, you'll probably be able to eat some more fatty stuff (if desired), and make up for it by working out a little longer.

I've been helping overweight ppl for a few years now and that routine works for a good bunch of them. My friend who has to work hard to keep himself in shape got me into it... I do it for the muscle gain rather than the weight loss though.

fergiboy Fasting for whatever reason is, in most cases, dangerous. A week without food _is not healthy_. I don't care if its to lose weight or protest that your people are getting killed by the gov't (I don't pretend to know what ghandi's story was).

Warrenton: Just a question. You mention defecating once every 4-6 days being good "because it meant [your] body was using a very large portion of what [you were] eating." If I'm not mistaken, I always thought that insoluble fibre in the form of fruits, vegetables, etc. was a good thing because it promoted regular bowel movements. Every 4-6 days doesn't seem that regular to me--is there something I'm missing?

10 000 calories/day and you only went every 4-6 days? It just seems a little extraordinary to me.

Despite what many of you guys said, I did not gain more weight.

I am between 178-180 pounds right now (200-210 pounds before). I have been eating only salads for 1 week.

IMHO I am healthier than ever; so after all, fasting for 1 week was not bad after all. I should do it more often; probably twice a year.

Just in case anyone cares about my health; I currently weigh 170 pounds. I feel healthier than ever

Fasting for a week was the best thing I could have ever done and would recommend it to anyone who wants to start a diet.
I probably won't be fasting for a couple of months though.

So, to all the people who said I would gain my weight again:

HA HA HA

Duckers - Glad to hear you are keeping the weight off. Just make sure to do some exercise such as weightlifting, etc., to keep it off. And next time try eating healthy instead of not at all!

<< Fasting for a week was the best thing I could have ever done and would recommend it to anyone who wants to start a diet. >>

do not encourage others to go on such a senseless diet. I learned in anatomy that if you're starving yourself, your body starts to burn proteins, long-term energy source which isn't a good thing at all: your organs and muscles begin to deteriorate and cannot be repaired. if you do a bit of exercise, you would burn short term energy supply which is carbohydrates; and if you want to burn fat, you'll have to work vigorously for at least 30mins. I know that sounds intense but it's better than deteriorating organs.

I'm glad you're not gaining weight, but just to let you know, the reason you're not gaining weight and feel fit is because of those salad diets, not the 1 week starvation. if you want shed some pounds and still be healthy, stop that starvation crap and eat more fatless foods: such as rice or veggies/fruits.

Duckers,

listen to EmperorNero, cuz he knows what he's talking about. as a former premed student (i'm not doing med school thing anymore), i had to learn all this metabolism stuff backwards and upside down. glucose (simple sugar) is the most readily available form of energy your body uses. during more vigorous exercise, your body uses up fat. protein is the last energy storage your body taps into. when you're starving yourself like this, just likeanorexics do, your body metabolizes protein into glucose. this process is called ketoacidosis, and plainly put, is bad thing to do. besides having a very bad breath as a side effect (and believe me, you will), it can do a number on your body and its organs. if i'm not mistaken (it has been several years since i learned all this), your vital organs can also be adversely affected, as EmperorNero stated. all that anorexics suffer from, you can suffer from too if you continue this on regular basis, such as kidney failure. many anorexics go into shock, because of the elevated acidic level of their blood as a result of ketoacidosis.
when you starve yourself like this, your body kicks into its 'premitive caveman' mode. imagine your ancestors many many years ago, living in caves and dependent on what they can hunt and scrounge up. between huntings, cavemen had to survive for many days, if not weeks, without food. their body went into 'survival' mode, and hung onto every single ounce energy in the form of fat, in case energy is needed later on when they spot mammoths, etc. body doesn't want to burn any unnecessary energy, and that's what your body wants to do right now. men have bellies, because this is where male body stores fat. cavemen during 'good times' stored fat in their bellies, to use as energy reserves. us men have our cavemen ancestors to thank for our bellies.
you're losing/maintaining your weight because of the salad diet, not because of your week-long fast. exercise is the best way to maintain your weight, believe me. i used to wrestle in high school, and i would eat anything i wanted and yet still maintained 3% body fat. good thing all my favorite foods did not contain sugar or much fat.
