I know there was a post in here about the audi a4 and nissan altima...how bout the audi a4 vs. lexus IS300?

automatic for both hehe I've got no skills with manual.

I'm trying to decide between these two since interest rate is so low and all, thought it would be a good time to buy a car. Give me some suggestions, I like them both, so hard to decide.

thanks guys

What is it with people not learning to drive standard? Fvck. A4 is better but I would take the bus if I couldn't drive stick, or shoot myself.

The A4 is definately more refined. The IS300 is far more agressive in terms of styling, but I've heard some people don't like the interior.

I'd personally go with a IS300 w/stick shift or auto. I consider them a yuppie car, but they can be made VERY fast. The IS has far more potential in my opinion.

Personally, I would prefer the A4. I like the styling of the A4, and Quattro is a plus. CVT seems like a neat technology as well, although I haven't driven a car equipped with it yet.

i'd go with the IS too since for lower end luxury, i'd prefer japanese over european. as you go up the luxury scale, i would prefer the european luxury over the japanese.

From looks and what I've heard about the IS300, IS300 ALL THE WAY! Damn, I wish I can get that, I'm in the $15~$20k range.

I don't know how much it is in your area, but in some of the commercials for the IS that I've seen the monthly lease is 399 a month. I also believe the down was pretty low as well which ain't too bad for an entry level sports-luxo.

Depends on what you're looking for. Faster car? They're about even. You're not considering the manuals, so that is a moot point. I say go for the A4 with the CVT. It's been tested as fast as the manual Audi. It's kind of hard to make decisions for you, since nobody knows what you want!

Get the A4...the interior is more classy IMO. Since you want an automatic, go for the 1.8T with CVT transmission then 'chip' it.

I'm partial to the IS. I think it's a great car, especially the new 5-spd's, but you can't be the 5-spd automatic Toyota makes.

A4 is a nice car, although I've heard some bad things about the build quality. I'd rather have the S4 anyway, but it's a lot more...

IS300... Japanese over that other POS anyday.

I don't understand why people don't take 5 minutes to learn to drive stick.. you'd kick yourself later in life after every day of driving the car and saying i should have gotten a manual, especially when it would have taken 1/1000th the time to learn as you've spent complaining about the auto... it's so easy to learn stick.. not buying a nice, new expensive car, the way you want it equipped because of a thing like that is retarded.

Which A4? The new one? I liked the old one better but even being a Lexus owner I'd say get the A4. The IS doesn't do it for me. The interior is cheesy, the car has less HP and space than my GS300 but gets worse mileage. Shouldn't a smaller car get better mileage than a bigger car especially when it's performance isn't altogether that much better?

I had an Audi A4 1.8T auto back in 98'. I had many problems with it, not minor ones, but problems stalling only after 10K miles, some eletrical problems... Funny thing is, my gf got a 2k1 1.8T auto Jetta and she stalls too! Her dealership is clueless and useless as was my Audi's, I'm trying to get her to get rid of it. When I got rid of the A4, I got the IS when it came out. I love this car. It fun to drive. PERIOD. It's definitely not a drag racer, a decent autoX-er. The A4 interior was definitely classier than the IS. It's subjective perspective, but I feel most luxo-euro interiors are far more classier than the japanese.

I don't know anything about the 2k2 A4, but I've read its a major improvement over the previous gen. Have you considered the 325/330? Those are really nice cars too.

I made my decision after I test drove the IS, have you test driven the A4 or IS yet?

Another positive note with the IS when compared to Audi is the service. This depends on the dealership themselves. Audi's dealership was nothing great. Something like Sears. The Lexus dealership is great. Food, golf, drinks... One time, I went in for some service. Without me asking they gave me a loaner, a GS300! I almost didn't want to go back. =]
