Right now im showing 58c at idle and 35c from the heatsink sensor.. now over the past few days ive had this thing ive been up to close to 70c at idle today for some reason it seems to be running cooling i have no idea why. I know there are issues with temps on my chaintech vnf3-250 motherboard and i have the updated bios. Do the processors run hot normally? And everything is setup fine with the heatsink, and im using arctic silver 5.

Heres some info on the processor

Athlon 64 3000+ Overclocked to 2200mhz (Strangly enough my temps went down after the overclocking)
Socket 754
ADA3000AEP4AX Serial#
F-C-O
1.5v

Why do you say disable Cool N Quiet? I'd say the opposite and enable it.

Anyways, yes that seems pretty high. I only get up to 70 or so when under full load, like running prime 95 or something. Mine ideled around 43-45 with no cool N quiet and in the 38-39 range with it enabled on the stock heatsink. I put a different heatsink and AS 5 on there mostly to get rid of the awful stock fan and run around 36 idel now.

IIRC the first chaintech bios was apperently pretty crappy, so it's possible that it's reading things wrong. Updating it is always a good thing.

did you update your BIOS? Socket 754 accompanied with NewCastle cores are well known to have questionable temperature readings.

For some strange reason, my "reported" temps INCREASE when I have CnQ activated on my Soltek K8AN2E-GR. And when I put load on it, it decreases back to "normal" temperatures. weird, but ohwell.

When Ocing, Cool n Quiet is almost universally recommended to be disabled. This is due to the fact that it decreases the fan speed along with the multiplier. But it assumes you are at stock speeds, when in reality you might be running much faster that what the fan speed is recommended for.

How do i disable it, i dont see an option for it in the bios, is it under a different name or what, cus i know the clock multiplier option was listed under Hammer Fid control or somthing of the sort.

Actually cool n quiet doesn't affect fan speeds at all, just the voltage going to your cpu. It lowers the voltage and underclocks it when idle to lower temperatures. I personally leave it off because I don't want any programs messing around with my cpu voltage and speeds, it worries me and anyway that's for me to do

those temps seem too high.. leads me to believe it is being reported wrong. I am sitting here right now on an aMD64 3500 running at 2.6Ghz on 1.62 vcore. My temp is 39 atm.. idles 38-40 all day long. running super pi 32m it gets into the mid 50's. I use a thermaltake venus 12 running at 3200 rpm, which isnt even half way up.. but it keeps it the same decibal level as my case/psu/video card fans. I can crank it up to 5500rpm but its loud cools well, 50ish under full load, but too loud. Ill take 55 and quiet all day long, especially with a 400mhz overclock

Just for clarification : Cool N Quiet Install Guide

In it, you can see that in order for the "Quiet" part of the equation to work (otherwise known as noise reduction, see guide), it decreases fan speed. Now in the guide it says that this is in response to temperatures, but something tells me that this part may not be 100% accurate, or at least doesn't completely work how it's supposed to. I say this given the user comments I've seen of higher temps when enabling it, though not in my own experience.

In any case, this feature was added in one of the BIOS revisions and defaults to disabled, so if you didn't change it, it's probably not the problem you're experiencing. It may be that Chaintech never actually fixed this temp issue, which is possible. I would say if the heatsink is just warm (in the 30-40C range) then you should be fine.

download cpu-z.

if your rev. is DH7-CG than its a known problem.
Has something to do with the position of the temp probe.

Everest, MBM, and Bios all give me different temp readings

bios says i'm upwards of 70 full load, 60 idle. So i'm guessing it's wrong, or my installation was very poor, i've had no stability issues, but i have heard that the 754 and clawhammer have a lot of temperature issue, there was a long thread on another board about it. *shrugs* Prime95 it, if you're good, then try updating bios, seeing if that makes a difference. I'm kinda living with it. not sure if that is wise or not.

CoolNquiet disables my cpu fan whenever temps aren't over a certain point. It lets heatsink passively cool until a certain temp is reached, then runs the fan at 100%, then shuts it off again when it's cooler than a certain temp etc etc etc.
